Submit a Clinical Proposal

We recognize the rapidly growing interest in human-subjects research related to COVID-19. As an institution, we are coordinating such efforts to optimize research opportunities for patients, minimize disruption of clinical care, efficiently engage care providers in research, and avoid duplication of research efforts. To that end, we have established a prioritizing process for human subjects research involving patients in our health systems.

Investigators seeking to conduct new research involving COVID-19 biospecimens or access to physical patients with or at risk for COVID-19 at USC-affiliated healthcare facilities (such as the Keck Hospital or LAC+USC) must submit their requests to the COVID Research Review and Prioritization Committee (CRRPC) through this COVID-19 Proposal Submission Portal before submission to the IRB. For studies that do not need access to COVID-19 biospecimens or physical patients with or at risk for COVID-19, please do not submit through this portal. If you have questions, please contact Dominique Pope ( dominique.pope@med.usc.edu or 213-373-0592).

The research proposals will be evaluated by the CRRPC. This committee will evaluate the proposals based on scientific merit, potential benefit to patients, operational feasibility, competing studies, and availability of funding. Only proposals receiving a high priority score will be approved for submission to the USC Biomedical IRB. Protocols submitted to the IRB that have not received a high priority score from the CRRPC will not be reviewed by the IRB. We thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation with this new process.
