Submit a Preclinical Proposal

We recognize the rapidly growing interest in preclinical research related to COVID-19. As an institution we are coordinating such efforts to identify meritorious preclinical research efforts which would require continued access to research facilities while avoiding duplication of research efforts. To that end, we have established a proposal submission process which will enable us to prioritize limited access to KSOM research facilities and BSL3 laboratory facilities while maintaining the necessary reductions in building occupancy and non-essential work activities mandated by USC, the city of Los Angeles and the state of California.

Investigators seeking to reopen their KSOM research laboratories for COVID-19 research must submit their requests through this Preclinical Research Portal. Investigators seeking access to the BSL3 laboratory from any school must also submit their requests through this Preclinical Research Portal. Proposals will be reviewed by the COVID Preclinical Resource Review and Prioritization Committee (CPRRP) and must be rated as meritorious prior to subsequent submission of essential materials to the Institutional Biosafety Committee.

Research proposals will be evaluated by the CPRRP based on scientific merit, the qualifications of the principal investigator or investigative team to conduct the research, the likelihood that this research will lead to a major, not incremental, advance, and the resources available to the project. Only proposals receiving a high priority score will be approved for submission to the USC Institutional Biosafety Committee and requests for facility access. Proposals submitted to the IBC for COVID-19 research that have not received a high priority score from the CPRRC will not be reviewed by the IBC.
