This one-day workshop focuses on the languages of the Caucasus more generally and is intended to bring together linguists working on the languages spoken in the Caucasus area regardless of their genetic affiliation (Nakh-Daghestanian, Abkhazo-Adyghean, Iranian, Turkic, Armenian, etc.).
The Caucasus is characterized by a relatively high level of linguistic diversity, in terms of number of languages and number of language families. The longstanding contact between the latter has either favored the spreading of features across the boundaries separating languages and families or resulted in convergent features between neighboring languages. The study of these features is the main, though not the exclusive, focus of this workshop. We invite contributions on various aspects of the languages spoken in the Caucasus.
