NYSPC Members and Site Supervisors,
Thursday, July 19th is Juneteenth, a federal holiday. All SCA offices will be closed on Thursday in commemoration of Juneteenth. What is Juneteenth? In 1619 the first enslaved people of African descent arrived on the shores of what is now Hampton, Virginia. While the Emancipation Proclamation went into effect January 1, 1863, the orders did not reach all parts of the confederate south until nearly two-and-a-half years later on June 19, 1865. Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. Please take a moment this week to honor this history. Here is the June 16th edition of the New York State Parks Corps "Monday Member Minutes:"

NYSPC Members and Site Supervisors,
It has been an unprecedented couple of weeks for the SCA New York team. Funding the New York State Parks Corps' "extra" events throughout the season does add up, and it's now more necessary than ever to curtail plans and conserve resources where possible. Thankfully, we've been able to offer the majority of the promised professional development trainings, and we will continue on "as planned" with ACA, LNT, and the "NYSPC Professional Development Days." There will be some consolidation and replanning of CWS, the Great NYS Fair, Member Meetups, the NYSPC Service Event, WI Autumn Festival, Recognition Ceremony and NYSOEA. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the (attached) new program schedule. Thank you all for understanding.
As always, I'm here if anyone has any questions or concerns (or needs to vent). As a reminder, I'm off for the next few weeks. Here is the May 19th edition of the New York State Parks Corps "Monday Member Minutes:"

I am an AmeriCorps member, and I will get things done."
Past Statement from SCA NYSPC Program Manager:
"Hello SCA members and partners, I am reaching out with some challenging updates from AmeriCorps & the New York State Commission. Earlier today, The Washington Post published an article indicating that DOGE has ordered the federal AmeriCorps agency to cut 41% of its AmeriCorps programming. As of this writing, we have not received any official notice from either DOGE or AmeriCorps about our programs in New York state. The NY State Commission counsel has been informed that we may hear something later this evening, over the weekend, or early next week. We will keep you informed of anything we learn as quickly as we can. There are many details that we still do not know and therefore we do not want to proceed on speculation or unofficial communications. I have a hard time sharing such difficult and uncertain news with you all, especially because of the lack of answers and information that we have, and because so much is at stake with the potential loss of AmeriCorps funding across the state and country. I would like to invite you to reach out to me with any questions or thoughts you may have, via email or cell, at any time. I am here to offer whatever support I can and will continue to keep you all updated as this situation unfolds. In the meantime, SCA staff continue to strategize, brainstorm, and prepare as best as we can for whatever the outcome may be. Thank you for your continued service, and we will be in communication soon. -Libby Young (she/her/hers), Senior Program Manager, SCA NY AmeriCorps and NYS Parks Corps"

NYSPC Members and Site Supervisors,
Here is the April 21st edition of the New York State Parks Corps "Monday Member Minutes:"
SCA Program Manager Statement on AmeriCorps:
"I hope this message finds you well and gearing up for a relaxing weekend. I am reaching out to provide a few updates, as there has been a lot of unnerving news this week about DOGE cutting AmeriCorps NCCC and FEMA Corps. I’m sure everybody is feeling stressed and confused about what this might mean for SCA New York. Although there is still some uncertainty about what the future holds, SCA feels confident that we are taking every step necessary to protect our current members’ positions. SCA has the benefit of working with multiple state commissions and conservation organizations across the country, all of whom are all taking an active role in educating and advocating on behalf of our members and programs. Our current understanding is that there are no active threats to programming delivered through grant funding (which is all SCA programming in NY). Please rest assured that SCA is taking every precaution and step necessary to protect our current members in the field. We believe that the work you do is integral to the well-being of our communities and, on a larger scale, the well-being of all people living in our country. Please rest assured that we will continue with business as usual, and that we will continue to keep you all updated with the most recent developments. If you would like to reach out to your local representative as an individual representing yourself (not representing AmeriCorps, SCA or your host site), here is one way you can do so: https://voicesforservice.org/take-action/contact-congress/ If you have any questions at all, don’t hesitate to reach out to me via email or phone. Thank you all and we will be in touch, Libby Young (she/her/hers)"

NYSPC Members and Site Supervisors,
I hope you all are doing well! Just a quick reminder: we request that all Members and Site Supervisors review the weekly "MMM" editions and the NYSPC event handouts. These are essential resources; not keeping current will lead to missed information. In addition, the NYSPC site contains an active tally of Member service/training hours. Please double-check these inputs bi-weekly to ensure they look correct along with team "Output Reports."

Note From Program Coordinator: With the 2025 NYSPC Two-Track Training rapidly approaching, I want to remind members that it is their responsibility to stay "healthy" ahead of the training. There will be a mandatory COVID-19/ Flu A&B test for all participants on the day they arrive at Wellesley Island State Park. There are likely NO makeup sessions for Game of Logging or The Certificate of Interpretive Guiding, and for most these trainings are necessary to perform the service objectives of their position. KEEP A SAFE DISTANCE FROM THOSE EXPERIENCING COLD OR FLU SYMPTOMS, INCLUDING COWORKERS. WEAR A N95 MASK WHILE AROUND THOSE EXPERIENCING COLD/FLU SYMPTOMS, WHILE WORKING WITH THE PUBLIC, OR WHILE OUT IN PUBLIC. Regularly wash your hands with soap and water (or sanitizer), especially after using the bathroom, coughing, or sneezing. Minimize touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
