ScanWise ("we", "our", or "the app") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how the app handles information to ensure a safe and transparent experience for our users.
In line with the 2026 Google Play Data Minimization policy:
Camera Access: ScanWise accesses the device camera strictly to scan product barcodes. We use Google ML Kit for on-device processing, meaning camera frames are analyzed in real-time and are NOT recorded, stored, or transmitted to any external servers.
Local Storage: We use Room Database and DataStore to store your scan history, favorites, and settings. This data resides locally on your device and is never uploaded to our servers.
The app requests only the minimum permissions required for its core functions:
CAMERA: To scan barcodes.
INTERNET: To fetch product information from public databases and load advertisements.
VIBRATE: To provide haptic feedback upon a successful scan.
NO CONTACTS/LOCATION: This app does NOT access your contacts, call logs, or precise location.
If ScanWise is used to check food ingredients or nutritional facts:
This app is for informational purposes only.
It does NOT access sensitive health data from Android Health Connect.
It does NOT share any user-specific health insights with third parties (insurers, employers, etc.) in accordance with the 2026 Health & Fitness policy update.
For users in the European Economic Area (EEA) and the UK:
Consent: We use a Google-certified Consent Management Platform (CMP) to obtain your explicit permission before serving personalized ads.
Control: You can withdraw consent or manage your ad preferences at any time through the in-app "Privacy Settings".
Data Rights: You have the right to clear all locally stored scan history at any time within the app.
ScanWise displays ads via Google AdMob. AdMob may collect non-personal device identifiers (AD-ID) to measure ad performance and prevent fraud.
We do not sell your personal data. Data is only shared with essential service providers (Google AdMob and ML Kit) to ensure the app works as intended.
ScanWise is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from minors.
