The iX1500 might have a few new features or improvements; but if you look at the reviews, not everyone likes it as much as they did the ix500. Personally, the iX500 does everything I need it to do. These scanners are not cheap to replace; and don't even get me started on how the iX500 (and its sexy blue light) looks so much better and more expensive looking than the iX1500, which could pass for a child's toy.

I'm in the same boat as you @JodyHeath.Com I think it's crazy what Fujitsu are doing / have decided to do regarding the ix500. The only thing we can do after 2024 is use it offline, connecting it directly to a laptop or desktop. Plus also make sure we have good copies of the drivers somewhere we can always retrieve them should we experience a failure. What else is there for us, beyond a decision change from the powers that be - at Fujitsu?

A few months ago, I was on a similar site to CraigsList in the UK called TrashNothing - the focus being to avoid things going into landfill. Anyway, someone had listed an office clearance - everything was going - FOR FREE!!! I saw an ix500 - in near mint condition according to what I could see at least... but I was too slow, it had already gone by the time I had reached out to the OP. Gutted! I would have snapped it up and kept it for use or at the very least parts should my original eventually fall over.

Weird - might be related to a windows update, as you suggested. Can not test it now since I do most of my work on my Mac these days. The Win10-machine is up to date regarding backups, but I only use it when I need to. Maybe I can come back on this when I use it next time, and will try to connect to the ix500 then.

I'm sort of gutted to be saying it, but the most robust operation at present is to use the scanner over WiFi to the mobile scansnap app, in my case on iOS and then forward it to my Evernote account. It shouldn't be the case, but this is presently the fastest and most reliable way of using the scanner.

I went with ScanSnap Home when I upgraded from the ix500 to ix1600 and for what it is worth, I find the multiple scanning options very worthwhile, especially when I can choose them right from the LCD display on the ix1600. Using different setups I have fingertip control of scan formats going into my database.

Fujitsu ix500 does not stay connected to Windows 10 Computers. So far the only thing that seems to work to get them to re-connect is a reboot, not exactly a great solution in most of my users cases. Have tried all known troubleshooting, even some pretty far out there stuff. Anyone know a for sure fix?

MattinVT: Are you saying that I have to delete the driver to my printer b/c it has a scan function in order to use the ScanSnap without the constant disconnect problem? P.S. I had the original scansnap running on Windows XP and NEVER did it disconnect or not work properly. I'm super bummed about this because it happens on a bi-weekly basis. It almost makes the scansnap unusable.

Thank you. I did run into a problem updating firmware and it would not recognize my scansnap ix500. I tried unplugging device and it just did not recognize it. I opted out of the firmware update and scanner worked.

I decided to observe network traffic between my Mac and the scanner and witnessed the scanner announcing itself to my Mac via UDP (on the correct port number), but my Mac sends no reply packets. ScanSnap Home never indicates communication from the ix500 scanner, and remains in the unavailable state.

Thank you so much dknapp. I downloaded the firmware upgrade from the link you provided and my ix500 is now scanning wireless. My problems started when my MacBook updated to macOS Catalina. Thanks again.

Don't blame you wanting mine ... but I reckon it'll work fine in OS Catalina now that I have hooked it up to to ix500 software ... had the machine donkey's years now, and still works flawlessly ... more than I can say for a long list of old printers and computers (computers still work fine, but HMRC keep pushing the boundaries as to what software they will accept, so the old Macs just gradually become obsolete over time as Apple updates its operating systems ... shame Apple didn't adopt Microsoft's stance of making all their software backwards compatible (well, I can't say for the Windows stuff, but Microsoft's Mac software doesn't appear to go out of time, regardless of how old it is.............) e24fc04721
