1. Introduction
Scanova is a document utility app that helps users scan documents, create PDF files, extract text from images, compress images, resize images, convert images to PDF, manage PDF files, and save or share generated files. This Privacy Policy explains what information Scanova accesses, how it is used, how it is protected, and the choices and rights available to you. By using Scanova, you agree to the practices described here.
For the purposes of the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the data controller is Umee Tech, reachable at se.umee22@gmail.com.
2. Information We Collect
Scanova does not require users to create an account or sign in for basic use.
Depending on the features used, Scanova may access or process:
• Images selected by the user
• Photos captured using the camera
• Documents scanned by the user
• PDF files selected or created by the user
• Text extracted from images using OCR
• File names, file sizes, file types, and saved file paths inside the app
Scanova does not currently display third-party advertisements and does not collect your advertising identifier. If advertising is introduced in a future version of the app, our advertising partner (Google AdMob) may collect device and advertising identifiers and related diagnostic information as described in the Advertising section, and this Privacy Policy will be updated.
3. Local Processing
Scanova is designed to process documents, images, PDF files, and OCR text locally on the device where possible.
Scanned documents, selected images, generated PDFs, compressed images, resized images, and extracted OCR text are not uploaded to our own server.
Files remain on the user's device unless the user chooses to share, export, or save them using another app or service.
4. Camera Permission
Scanova may request camera access when the user uses document scanning or camera-based capture features.
Camera is used only to:
• Scan documents
• Capture images for PDF creation
• Capture images for OCR text extraction
• Capture images for compression or resizing when selected by the user
Scanova does not use the camera in the background.
5. Photos, Images, Documents, and Files
Scanova may allow users to select images, photos, or PDF files from their device.
These files are used only for the action chosen by the user, such as:
• Creating a PDF from images
• Compressing images
• Resizing images
• Extracting text from images
• Managing saved files
• Sharing exported files
Scanova does not upload selected images, scanned documents, OCR text, or PDF files to our own server.
6. OCR / Image to Text
Scanova uses on-device text recognition technology (Google ML Kit) to extract text from selected or captured images.
OCR is used to:
• Detect text in images
• Convert image text into editable text
• Allow users to copy, save, or share extracted text
OCR processing is performed on the device. Extracted text remains on the device unless the user chooses to share, copy, export, or save it outside the app.
7. Local Storage and Generated Files
Scanova may save generated files locally on the device, including:
• Scanned PDF files
• Image-to-PDF files
• Compressed images
• Resized images
• OCR text files
• Other exported documents created by the app
Users can delete files created by Scanova from within the app where file management options are available, or by using the device storage or file manager.
8. Internet Permission
Scanova uses internet access so the on-device document scanner can download its scanning model from Google Play Services on first use. If advertising is enabled in a future version, internet access may also be used for advertising services such as Google AdMob.
Scanova does not use internet access to upload personal documents, images, scanned files, or extracted OCR text to our own servers.
9. Advertising / Google AdMob
Scanova does not currently show advertisements. The following explains how advertising would work if it is enabled in a future version of the app. Scanova may then display advertisements through Google AdMob or the Google Mobile Ads SDK.
Advertising partners may collect or process certain ad-related information, such as:
• Advertising ID and device identifiers
• App interactions
• Approximate, coarse location derived from technical signals (e.g., IP address)
• Diagnostics, crash, or performance data
• Data used to serve, measure, and improve ads
This information is collected and processed by Google and its advertising partners according to their own privacy policies. You can learn how Google uses this data at https://policies.google.com/privacy and https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Scanova does not sell scanned documents, selected images, generated PDFs, or OCR text to advertisers. User documents, images, PDFs, and OCR text are not uploaded to our own server for advertising purposes.
Where required by law (for example, in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland), Scanova presents a consent prompt, powered by Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP), before personalized ads are shown. You can change or withdraw your advertising consent at any time from the app's settings, and you can reset or limit your Advertising ID from your device settings.
10. Third-Party Services
Scanova may use third-party services and SDKs to provide app functionality and advertising. These may include:
• Google AdMob / Google Mobile Ads SDK — advertising (https://policies.google.com/privacy)
• Google ML Kit (Text Recognition) — on-device OCR (https://policies.google.com/privacy)
• Android system services for camera, file selection, PDF creation, file sharing, and local storage
Third-party services may process technical, diagnostic, usage, or ad-related data according to their own privacy policies.
11. Data Sharing
Scanova does not share scanned documents, selected images, generated PDFs, or extracted OCR text with our own server. Data may be shared only when:
• The user chooses to share a file using another app
• The user exports or saves a file to a selected location
• Advertising SDKs process ad-related data
• Required by law or legal process
• Necessary to protect rights, safety, or prevent misuse
12. Data Retention
Files created in Scanova are stored locally on the user's device until deleted or until the app is uninstalled.
Scanova does not maintain a user account database for basic app usage.
Ad-related data may be retained by advertising providers according to their own retention policies.
13. Data Security
Scanova is designed to process documents and images locally on the device where possible.
When third-party services such as advertising SDKs transmit data over the internet, that data is encrypted in transit using industry-standard secure protocols (HTTPS/TLS).
No mobile application or method of electronic storage or transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure, but we and our service providers take reasonable measures to protect information.
14. Permissions Used by Scanova
Scanova may request the following permissions depending on app features:
• Camera — Used for scanning documents and capturing images.
• Internet — Used by the on-device document scanner to download its model on first use. May also be used for advertising if it is enabled in a future version.
• Photos / Files Access — Used only when the user chooses to select images, photos, or PDF files from the device.
Scanova does not request access to:
• Contacts, SMS, or call logs
• Microphone or location
• Health data
• Installed apps list
• Background location
15. Children's Privacy
Scanova is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction).
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If a parent or guardian believes a child has provided personal information through the app, they may contact us at se.umee22@gmail.com, and we will take steps to delete such information.
16. Your Privacy Rights
16.1 General controls (all users)
You can control your data by:
• Denying camera permission
• Selecting only the files you want to process
• Deleting generated files from the app or device storage
• Resetting or managing the Advertising ID from Android settings
• Managing ad personalization or withdrawing ad consent from the app, device, or Google account settings
• Uninstalling the app to remove app-specific local data
Some features may not work properly if required permissions are denied.
16.2 GDPR rights (EEA, UK, and Switzerland)
If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have the right to: access your personal data; request correction or erasure; restrict or object to processing; data portability; and withdraw consent at any time (including consent for personalized advertising). Our legal bases for processing are your consent (for personalized advertising) and our legitimate interests (to provide and secure app functionality). You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority. To exercise any of these rights, contact se.umee22@gmail.com.
16.3 CCPA/CPRA rights (California residents)
California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected, used, or disclosed; to request deletion of their personal information; to correct inaccurate information; and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. If advertising is enabled in a future version, the only category of personal information involved would be identifiers (the Advertising ID and device identifiers) processed for advertising. Scanova does not sell your personal information for money. The use of advertising identifiers for personalized advertising may be considered "sharing" under the CPRA; you may opt out by withdrawing advertising consent in the app, resetting or limiting your Advertising ID, or by emailing se.umee22@gmail.com. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.
17. How to Request Data Deletion
Scanova does not require an account, so there is no account to delete. Files you create are stored only on your device and can be removed at any time from within the app, from your device storage, or by uninstalling the app.
If you wish to request deletion of any data associated with you that may be held by our advertising provider (such as data tied to your Advertising ID), you may:
• Reset or delete your Advertising ID in your device settings, and/or
• Send a deletion request to se.umee22@gmail.com with the subject line "Data Deletion Request"
We will respond to verified deletion requests within the timeframe required by applicable law.
18. International Users
Scanova may be available to users in different countries. Third-party services such as advertising providers may process technical or ad-related data according to their own privacy practices and applicable laws.
19. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time.
When this Privacy Policy is updated, the Effective Date will be revised. Continued use of the app after changes means the user accepts the updated Privacy Policy.
