This Privacy Policy describes how ScanVernac ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the ScanVernac mobile application ("App"). By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

1. INFORMATION WE COLLECT

We collect the following types of information when you use the App:

a) Account Information: When you register, we collect your email address and a hashed version of your password. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture as provided by Google.

b) Usage Data: We collect information about how you interact with the App, including the features you use, the number of scans performed, your selected language preferences, and app settings. This data is used to improve the App and enforce usage limits.

c) Device Information: We may collect information about your mobile device, including device type, operating system version, and unique device identifiers, for the purpose of troubleshooting and service improvement.

d) Images: Images you capture or upload are transmitted to our servers for OCR processing. These images are processed in real time and are deleted immediately after text extraction is complete. We do not store, analyse, or share your images.

e) Saved Texts: Text results that you choose to save are stored locally on your device only. We do not have access to your saved texts.

2. HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION

We use the information we collect to: provide, maintain, and improve the App and its features; manage your account and enforce usage limits (such as daily scan quotas); authenticate your identity and ensure account security; respond to your feedback and support requests; comply with legal obligations; and prevent fraud, abuse, or violations of our Terms of Service.

3. THIRD-PARTY SERVICES

We use the following third-party services that may collect information:

a) Firebase (Google): We use Firebase for user account management, authentication, analytics, and database services. Firebase is subject to Google's Privacy Policy.

b) Groq: We use Groq API for high-performance text processing and AI-driven features. Groq does not retain your data beyond the immediate request.

c) OpenAI: We use OpenAI API for text analysis, translation, and natural language processing. OpenAI does not use data submitted via their API to train their models.

4. DATA SHARING

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. We may share information only in the following circumstances: with service providers who assist in operating the App under strict confidentiality obligations; when required by law, regulation, or valid legal process; to protect the rights, property, or safety of ScanVernac, our users, or the public; or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, where you will be notified in advance.

5. DATA RETENTION

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal information within 30 days, except where retention is required by law. Locally saved texts are stored on your device and are deleted when you uninstall the App or manually delete entries.

6. SECURITY

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS) and secure server infrastructure. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

The App is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete such information.

7. YOUR RIGHTS

Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information; withdraw consent to data processing; request a copy of your data in a portable format; or lodge a complaint with a data protection authority. To exercise these rights, please contact us through the feedback feature within the App.

8. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last Updated" date or through an in-app notification. Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
