ScanLingua Terms of Service

1. Introduction

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the ScanLingua iOS application operated by Hui Quan Zhong, an individual developer ("ScanLingua", "we", "our", or "the app").

By downloading, installing, accessing, or using ScanLingua, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

2. Description of the Service

ScanLingua is a document scanning, OCR (optical character recognition), and translation app for iPhone. Depending on the release, it may provide features such as:

• document scanning using the built-in camera with automatic edge detection and cropping

• importing images from the photo library for OCR processing

• on-device text recognition supporting multiple languages

• on-device translation using offline language models

• bilingual display of original text and translation

• local document library for managing scanned documents

• export to TXT and PDF formats without watermarks

• saving and searching saved sentences

Some features depend on device permissions and platform availability.

ScanLingua is licensed, not sold, to you. If you obtain ScanLingua through Apple's App Store, your use of the app is also subject to Apple's applicable App Store terms, Usage Rules, and standard end-user license agreement where applicable.

3. Eligibility and Acceptable Use

You may use ScanLingua only if you have the legal capacity to agree to these Terms and only in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

You agree that you will not:

• use the app for unlawful, fraudulent, or abusive purposes

• attempt to interfere with the app's normal operation

• misuse scanned documents, OCR text, translations, or exported files in a way that violates law or the rights of others

• use the app to infringe intellectual property, privacy, publicity, or other legal rights

• reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, attempt to derive source code from, modify, or create derivative works of the app, except where applicable law expressly permits such activity

• use third-party services accessed through the app in violation of applicable third-party terms

4. Permissions and Device Access

Certain features require access to device capabilities, including:

• camera, for document scanning

• photo library, for importing images and saving exports

If you deny or revoke these permissions, some features may be unavailable or may not function properly.

5. User Content

You remain responsible for content you create, capture, import, scan, translate, save, or share using ScanLingua, including:

• scanned documents and imported images

• OCR recognition results and any edits you make to them

• translated text generated by the app

• saved sentences

• exported TXT and PDF files

You represent that you have the necessary rights to any content you use with the app.

ScanLingua primarily processes user content locally on your device. These Terms do not grant us ownership of your user content.

6. Accuracy of Output

ScanLingua uses automated OCR and machine translation technologies. You acknowledge that:

• OCR results may contain recognition errors, especially with handwritten text, low-quality scans, or complex layouts

• machine translation output may not always be accurate, natural, or contextually appropriate

• you are responsible for reviewing and verifying any OCR text, translation, or exported output before relying on it for legal, medical, financial, official, or other important purposes

ScanLingua is not a certified translation service. The app does not provide human-reviewed or professionally certified translations.

7. Intellectual Property

The app software, app name, interface elements, and original app materials provided by us are protected by applicable intellectual property laws.

These Terms do not transfer ownership of the app or its underlying software to you. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the app for its intended purpose on Apple-branded products that you own or control, subject to applicable App Store Usage Rules.

8. Third-Party Services

Some features may rely on third-party or platform services.

For example:

• Google ML Kit Translate is used for on-device translation. Language model files are downloaded from Google's servers and may be subject to Google's terms and privacy policies.

• Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics, provided by Google LLC, may be used for limited app analytics, diagnostics, and crash reporting.

• Apple platform services may be involved in app distribution, permissions, camera and photo library access, and related device functionality.

Third-party services may be unavailable, delayed, restricted, or changed depending on your location, network environment, or the third-party provider's policies. We do not control and are not responsible for third-party services, third-party content, or third-party policies.

9. Privacy

Your use of ScanLingua is also subject to our Privacy Policy, which describes how permissions, local document storage, offline language model downloads, Firebase Analytics, Firebase Crashlytics, and exports and sharing are handled.

10. Disclaimer

ScanLingua is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis to the maximum extent permitted by law.

We do not guarantee that:

• the app will always be uninterrupted or error-free

• every OCR recognition result, translation, or exported file will always be accurate in every circumstance

• offline language models will always be available for download or will cover every language or dialect

• third-party services, analytics, or diagnostics will always be available or successfully delivered

• the app will meet every legal, evidentiary, business, or professional translation or recordkeeping requirement you may have

ScanLingua is not a certified translation, evidence preservation, or professional recordkeeping system. You are responsible for reviewing generated output and retaining any additional records you may need before relying on it.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, including damages for:

• lost data

• lost profits

• business interruption

• inaccurate OCR or translation output

• export failures

• disputes arising from user-created or user-shared content

If applicable law does not allow certain limitations, some of the above limitations may not apply to you.

12. Termination

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue all or part of the app at any time, subject to applicable law.

You may stop using the app at any time by uninstalling it.

Your right to use the app may terminate if you materially violate these Terms.

13. Changes to the App or Terms

We may update the app and may revise these Terms from time to time to reflect product, legal, or operational changes. When we update these Terms, we will change the "Last Updated" date above.

Your continued use of the app after updated Terms take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

14. Apple App Store Terms

If you obtained ScanLingua through Apple's App Store, you acknowledge that:

• these Terms are between you and Hui Quan Zhong, not Apple

• Apple is not responsible for providing maintenance or support services for ScanLingua

• Apple is not responsible for claims relating to ScanLingua except as required by applicable law

• Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of the terms applicable to your App Store license and may enforce those terms

• Nothing in these Terms limits rights you may have under Apple's applicable terms or mandatory consumer protection laws.

15. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws applicable to the operator distributing ScanLingua, subject to any mandatory consumer protection laws that apply in your jurisdiction.
