Privacy Policy
Scan It Rate It
Effective Date: March 10, 2026
Scan It Rate It ("the App", "we", "our") is a barcode scanning and personal review app developed for Android. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App collects, how it is used, and your choices as a user. We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your data transparently.
All personal review data you create inside the App is stored exclusively on your device. This includes:
Barcodes you scan or enter manually
Item names, categories, and notes you write
Ratings, star scores, and tags you assign
Any other content you choose to enter
This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly export it using the CSV export feature.
The App requests access to your device camera solely to scan barcodes. Camera images are processed entirely on-device using Google ML Kit. No images or video are stored, transmitted, or shared at any time. Camera use is optional — you may enter barcodes manually without granting camera permission.
The free version of the App displays banner advertisements served by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect and process certain data to serve relevant ads, including:
Device identifiers (Advertising ID)
IP address and approximate location
Device type, operating system, and language
Ad interaction data (impressions, clicks)
This data is collected and processed by Google under their own Privacy Policy. We do not receive or store this advertising data ourselves. You can review Google's data practices at: https://policies.google.com/privacy
Users who purchase the "Remove Ads" in-app purchase will have all advertising SDKs disabled and no advertising data will be collected.
If you purchase "Remove Ads", the transaction is processed entirely by Google Play. We do not collect, store, or have access to your payment information. Google Play may collect purchase data in accordance with their own terms. We only receive a confirmation that a purchase was completed, which is stored locally on your device to unlock the ad-free experience.
We do not independently collect crash reports or analytics. If you have Google Play Services enabled on your device, Google may collect anonymised crash and performance data as part of their standard Android services.
We use the limited information available to us solely to:
Operate and improve the App
Verify in-app purchase status to unlock ad-free functionality
Display advertisements in the free version of the App (via Google AdMob)
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any third parties for their own marketing purposes.
All review data, settings, and purchase status are stored locally on your device using Android's secure local storage (Room database and DataStore). The App does not operate any cloud servers or remote databases. Your data remains on your device at all times.
If you uninstall the App, all locally stored data will be permanently deleted. We recommend using the CSV export feature to back up your data before uninstalling.
The App requests the following Android permissions:
CAMERA — Used only to scan barcodes. Optional; the App functions without it.
INTERNET — Required to load banner advertisements and process in-app purchases via Google Play. Not used for any other purpose.
The App integrates the following third-party services:
Serves banner advertisements in the free version of the App.
Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
Processes the one-time "Remove Ads" in-app purchase.
Terms of Service: https://play.google.com/about/play-terms/
Processes camera frames on-device to detect barcodes. No data is sent to Google servers.
Privacy Policy: https://developers.google.com/ml-kit/privacy
The App is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the App, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to remove such information.
You can use the App without granting camera permission by entering barcodes manually.
You can export your data at any time using the CSV export feature in the Export tab.
You can delete all your data by uninstalling the App.
You can opt out of personalised ads by resetting your Android Advertising ID in your device settings (Settings → Google → Ads).
You can remove all advertising permanently by purchasing the "Remove Ads" in-app purchase.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Effective Date" at the top of this document. Continued use of the App after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
If you have any questions or concerns about this Privacy Policy, please contact us through the Google Play Store listing for Scan It Rate It.
