⚠️ Beta Software Notice: ScanBuyBye is currently in beta. The app, website, and all features — including product matching, boycott alerts, store recommendations, and alternatives — are experimental and subject to change without notice. Results may be incomplete, inaccurate, or missing. Do not rely solely on ScanBuyBye for purchasing decisions. Always verify information independently.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, or using the ScanBuyBye mobile application or visiting the ScanBuyBye website, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the app or website.
We reserve the right to update these terms at any time. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
2. Description of Service
ScanBuyBye is a consumer tool that allows users to:
Scan product barcodes and check them against personal boycott and support lists
Contribute and edit product information (name, brand, company, country, category, tags)
Vote on community-submitted product edits
Receive store recommendations based on their support list
Export and import their boycott/support lists
⚠️ Experimental Features: The following features are particularly experimental during the beta period and may produce inaccurate, incomplete, or misleading results: product matching and boycott alerts, store recommendations, product alternative suggestions, and country detection. These features depend entirely on community-contributed data which is still growing.
3. Accounts
You may use basic features of ScanBuyBye without an account. To contribute product data, vote on edits, or sync your lists across devices, you must create an account.
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials. You agree to notify us immediately of any unauthorised use of your account. ScanBuyBye is not liable for losses resulting from unauthorised account access due to your failure to keep credentials secure.
Your ScanBuyBye account works across both the mobile app and the website portal — they share the same login credentials.
4. Community Content and Contributions
ScanBuyBye relies on community contributions to build and improve its product database. When you contribute product information (edits, additions, or corrections), you:
Grant ScanBuyBye a perpetual, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use, display, and distribute that information within the app and website
Confirm that the information you submit is accurate to the best of your knowledge
Understand that your contributions will be reviewed by the community through a voting system before being applied
🚫 Data Integrity Policy: Submitting false, misleading, fabricated, or deliberately inaccurate product information is strictly prohibited. This includes but is not limited to: incorrect company ownership, false country of origin, made-up brands or tags, and politically motivated false attributions.
Violations will result in your edit being rejected and may result in your account being suspended or permanently banned without warning or refund. Repeated violations or deliberate abuse will result in permanent account deletion. We reserve the right to determine what constitutes a violation at our sole discretion.
ℹ️ Data Retention: Product data, edits, and contributions you submit become part of the community database. This data is not deleted when you delete your account. Community-contributed information is retained to continue benefiting other users. Your personal lists (boycott/support) are deleted when you close your account, but product contributions remain.
5. Prohibited Conduct
You agree not to use ScanBuyBye to:
Submit false, misleading, or deliberately inaccurate product information
Harass, threaten, or harm other users
Attempt to manipulate the voting system through multiple accounts or coordinated abuse
Attempt to access, scrape, or extract data from our systems beyond normal app use
Reverse engineer, decompile, or tamper with the app
Use the app for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws
Impersonate other users, moderators, or ScanBuyBye staff
Create multiple accounts to evade a ban or suspension
6. Moderation and Account Termination
ScanBuyBye moderators and administrators have the authority to:
Reject, modify, or remove any community contribution that violates these terms
Issue warnings to users who violate community standards
Suspend or permanently ban accounts for violations, at our sole discretion
We reserve the right to terminate any account at any time for any reason, with or without notice. Banned users are not entitled to a refund of any in-app purchases.
7. In-App Purchases
ScanBuyBye offers a one-time "Remove Ads" purchase processed through Google Play Billing. This purchase:
Permanently removes advertisements from the app for your account
Is a one-time fee with no recurring charges
Is non-refundable except where required by applicable law
Is tied to your Google Play account and may not transfer if you change accounts
We are not responsible for any issues arising from Google Play's billing system.
8. Disclaimer of Warranties
ScanBuyBye is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that:
The app will be available at all times or error-free
Product information is accurate, complete, or up to date
Boycott or support alerts are correct or comprehensive
Store recommendations are suitable for your specific needs
Any specific feature will remain available in future versions
Product data is community-sourced and unverified. ScanBuyBye makes no representations about the accuracy of any product information displayed in the app.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, ScanBuyBye and its developers shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app, including but not limited to purchasing decisions made based on information displayed in the app.
Your use of ScanBuyBye is at your sole risk. Always verify product information independently before making purchasing decisions.
10. Intellectual Property
The ScanBuyBye name, logo, app design, and original code are the intellectual property of ScanBuyBye. Community-contributed product data is made available under an open data model for the benefit of users.
Some product data is sourced from Open Food Facts (openfoodfacts.org) under the Open Database Licence (ODbL).
11. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which ScanBuyBye operates. Any disputes will be resolved in accordance with applicable law.
