When you connect a scanner to your device or add a new scanner to your home network, you can usually start scanning pictures and documents right away. If your scanner doesn't automatically install, here's some help to get things working.

In most cases, all you have to do to set up a scanner is to connect it to your device. Plug the USB cable from your scanner into an available USB port on your device, and turn the scanner on. If that doesn't work, here's a way to do it manually.

If your scanner is turned on and connected to the network, Windows should find it automatically. Available scanners can include all scanners on a network, such as Bluetooth and wireless scanners or scanners that are plugged into another device and shared on the network. Here's a way to do it manually.

If you use wireless access points, extenders or multiple wireless routers with separate SSIDs, you'll need to ensure that you're connected to the same network as the scanner for your PC to find and install it.

If your scanner is included in a multifunction or All-In-One printer, you may only see the name of your printer. To see your scanner, under Printers & scanners, select your installed printer, select Manage, and then choose your scanner.

After your scan is finished, select View to see the scanned file before you save it, or select Close to save it. You can edit the scanned document or picture in the preview that appears when you select View.

You'll be prompted that you're about to be signed out of Windows. After you are, your PC should restart. Microsoft Defender Offline will load and perform a quick scan of your PC in the recovery environment. When the scan has finished (usually takes about 15 minutes), your PC will automatically restart.

If you experience a Stop error on a blue screen when you run the offline scan, restart your device and try running a Microsoft Defender Offline scan again. If the blue-screen error happens again, contact Microsoft Support.

The connection with the printer with my USB cable is working (I'm not using a laptop but a tower as a computer), the scanner is doing is job by scanning the document, but I can't get the preview on my screen. When the preview is trying to load, it keeps freezing and nothing appears.

Place a document on the machine, and press PC1> or PC2>, and scanning starts immediately. The type of scan (color or black and white), the save destination for the document, and other settings can be registered to a button, and documents can be scanned using those settings. This section describes how to register settings in a button and scan with it. USPayserv

Before I was using MF Toolbox and everything was working fine, I could get a Preview before scanning. But now, when I try to get a Preview using MF Toolbox, the scanner is scanning the document, but the Preview is freezing on my computer screen like that:

@Molambre i noticed the same issue on two of my personal laptops with xerox c235 today. Surprisengly on my company laptop the printer is still visible and working properly. I also tried with similar steps as you did with no resulr. I have xerox print and scan experience 7.0 on all laptops.

I know enough about packet analysis to find out what the root cause of a problem is most of the time, so I had a look at those 2 packet captures side by side. What I saw in them was identical. Repeated reverse DNS lookups that continually failed causing scans to deliver slowly.

If you are interested in learning more through personal analysis you can take a packet capture using the built-in network troubleshooting log function found in the security section of the Xerox Embedded Web Server. Take a capture of the scanning process with your previous DNS servers configured and one with the new ones and take a look at the difference in Wireshark.

I would need to see a network troubleshooting log (packet capture) to verify that I'm correct, but in my experience this is usually caused by failed reverse DNS lookups. An easy test to validate my assumption is to remove any DNS entries from the machines TCP/IP settings and retest scanning. Of course you'll need to have your scan configuration setup via IP and not hostname since we've removed DNS servers. If it works normally without DNS servers entered on the Xerox and you want to have DNS servers configured on the device then you'll need to look into your server side configuration and make sure that reverse dns zones and PTR's that are properly configured so the queries that the machine makes can complete.

@Deleted @Reza_Ameri so weird... I just completed a Full Scan successfully with Malwarebytes Premium also running in the background. I was also actively using my PC; web browsing, Spotify and a bit of file copying. I'm not really sure what could have caused the scan to be successful? Could it be a Windows 11 power usage thing? - because like I said before, I would always come back to a hung scan if the PC had become idle etc. My rig never sleeps but the system does lock after 10 minutes of inactivity I think. I know the monitor sleeps after 20 minutes.

The reason for this problem may be -> not enough space on the C drive - you need to have about 15 G of free space, it is best to delete the cache beforehand, restart the computer, and then perform a full security scan.

How many files are on the disk? Do you have a record?

Is the disk an HDD or SSD?

Try cleaning up the drive before a scan. In Explorer, right click on C: and select Properties > Disk Clean-up.

The Defender scan is alternated between Quick and Full every two weeks as part of this housekeeping rota. This is where the discrepancy between the two machines has become apparent. Prior to updating Win 7 to Win 10 on the laptop I used Avira AV and the differences then were negligible.

Hi, I installed the OVA of Wazuh 4.4.5 (latest). I changed my admin password, I enabled the Vulnerabilities scanner in the config file, I make sure to restart. I also added the config for the Agent.

But it seems that the Full scan or Partial Scan on ALL my Windows version do not have ANY vulnerabilities... I think it's not just working. I have Windows Server 2012, 2016, 2019 and 2022 along with Win10 Pro and Win11 Pro agents, all with NO vulnerabilities...

3. If you click "Show More" in the Scan app's menu, you can adjust additional settings for your scan, including color, resolution, and the folder in which you want to save your scan. If you skip this step, your scan will use the default settings.

4. Position the document you want to scan inside your scanner. This can be done either face-down on the scanner glass or face-up in the scanner document feeder, depending on the type of scanner you have.

6. When your scan has finished, you can view it by clicking "View" on the Scan app. The scan will be saved in your computer's "Pictures" folder unless you selected another location in the Scan app's settings.

I am configuring a computer for my old man and he is frequently scanning documents. He has a bad memory and is not very good with computers so I am trying to make things as simple as possible for him.

Thanks, I'm actually doing the same, setting up my dad's new computer. So there's an application in C:\Windows\System32 called wiaacmrg.exe that opens a scan console, so you can make a shortcut to it and it has an icon with scanner next to a camera so it's just about perfect.

Note: This disables the Shell Hardware Detection services, which Provides notifications for AutoPlay hardware events. Also the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service depends on it to Provide image acquisition services for scanners and cameras.

If you disable the shell hardware detection service, you can still use your scanner with the WIA service but setting WIA to Manual. If you have trouble with your scanning software, create a batch file that starts WIA: "net start StiSvc" and then runs your scanners software.

I have just seen how many people are having the same problem and have tried one suggestion that ECHO_Lake advised but my HP Envy 5020 still does not scan. The printer and the copier work but it won't scan. Hewlett Packard should do as Epson are doing which is provide a link to a free 'patch' that enables the windows 11 and the scanner to be compatible and once again work. My sister has an Epson which is over 10 years old yet they still did this for her and didn't charge. When we bought the HP computer 3 years ago we deliberately opted for a new HP printer/scanner as we thought the 2 would be compatible, whatever software updates were installed. We were wrong and now HP are just providing virtual support that has had me and clearly many other people wasting hours and days of their time by going around in circles in the website. Hewlett Packard it is not good enough!!

I've written a python program that uses os.walk along with os.path.getsize to get the file list, and it works fine, but is not particularly fast. I noticed one of the freeware programs I had downloaded accomplished the same scan much faster than my program.

Any ideas for speeding up the file scan? Here's my python code, but keep in mind that I'm not at all married to os.walk and perfectly willing to use others APIs (including windows native APIs) if there are better alternatives.

It is much faster than python walk, but uses the same syntax. Just import scandir and change os.walk() to scandir.walk(). That's it. It is the fastest way to traverse directories and files in python. ff782bc1db
