We welcome new members and invite people to come along and see what working equitation is about
Welcome to South Canterbury Working Equitation.
SCWE is the home of Working Equitation in South Canterbury and surrounding areas. We are a new Working Equitation club and are committed to its development in South Canterbury. Working Equitation excites us as it is perfectly designed with both human and horse development in mind. The rising levels means that horses are competed within their ability and that we can bring them along in a way which keeps them healthy and developing in strength and agility. Riders too develop alongside their horses. Some exciting options are now liberty and in-hand as well as lead line for children.
Truly a family sport!
Working Equitation is all about training and versatility creating a strong meaningful bond between horse and human.
Open to all breeds and all genres of tack, the focus on agility and athleticism alongside the mental and bodily health of our horses makes it a perfect focus for ethically minded riders.
Working Equitation has the principles of Classical Dressage at its center.
It was started by four European countries, France, Italy, Portugal and Spain with the first international competition being run in 1996. Working Equitation is now a worldwide phenomenon and rapidly growing sport.
Our club has access to all obstacles at our club, including a small sand arena fenced off for liberty and learners, as well as grass areas to ride at the Cave Domain, a club room for shared cups of tea or lunch, and shade from some beautiful trees at the domain.
COMPETING
Three phases offered in New Zealand; Dressage, EOH and Speed.
Flatwork. In a 20 by 40-meter arena, each flatwork test seeks to demonstrate the moves needed in each level, encouraging harmony and agility.
EOH (ease of handling). The partnership demonstrates their ability, finesse and style with a set number of simple obstacles. The difficulty of the obstacles rises with the levels.
Speed. The same obstacles done at speed with agility and precision.
To find your level, check out the Rules and Tests or email our club to discuss your options. You are welcome to come to a club day and have a chat and see where you and your horse are at.
Membership year runs from 1st May 2024 to the following 31st April 2025
The annual club fee is $55 per adult member, with a $10 discount for prompt payment before end of June. $10 for a child with a riding parent
$20 per child with a non-riding parent. A child needs a designated adult with them.
