Yara Butler
Middle School Math Teacher & SCLS Director
Hi, I’m Yara Butler, Director of SC Learning Solutions and Middle School Math tutor! I’ve been teaching middle school math for over 22 years, and it’s truly my passion. I love helping students see that math isn’t something to be afraid of—it can actually be fun and rewarding!
I grew up in North Carolina and first discovered my love for teaching after struggling with Algebra I during my freshman year of high school. Thanks to an amazing high school math teacher who helped me through it, I knew I wanted to do the same for others.
I earned my B.A. in Middle Grades Education from UNC Charlotte and hold a Gifted and Talented (GT) endorsement. After marrying my wonderful husband—who’s from this area—I moved to Chappells, SC, and now proudly call it home!
Whether it’s building confidence in the classroom or changing how students see math, I’m here to make a difference one student at a time.
Martha Kinsler
Middle & High School Math Teacher
Hello! My name is Martha Kinsler, and I am excited about this wonderful opportunity for students with South Carolina Learning Solutions.
I grew up in Augusta, Georgia, and graduated from Augusta College (Augusta University) with a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Chemistry and minoring in Mathematics and Physics. I planned to be an analytical chemist. However, while in college, I was asked to tutor other chemistry students. I discovered the joy of helping others learn. Soon after college graduation, I was asked to be the high school Chemistry and Physics teacher at a local high school. Later returned to college to complete the requirements of Education courses for certification. I have a Master of Arts in Teaching degree from Marshall University in West Virginia.
My husband’s career as a pastor has taken us to several different locations. As we moved around, I found different exciting teaching opportunities. With each opportunity, I sought educational opportunities to improve my teaching skills. I have certifications in 6th - 12th grade science and math, and high school Chemistry. I am certified in Advanced Placement Calculus AB and BC. I am also certified in virtual teaching. I have taught 5th and 6th-grade science, 6th - 8th-grade math, 9th -12th-grade Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Forensic Science. I taught nursing chemistry at a technical college in North Carolina. I served as a math interventionist at a middle school for the last two years of full-time instruction. Throughout my career, I have tutored many students in all subjects. I believe in life-long learning, so I continue to seek opportunities to learn.
Ashley Sweat
Middle School Math Teacher
Hi, I'm Ashley Sweat, and I've been teaching math for the past 11 years in Saluda County. Born and raised in Saluda, I knew I wanted to grow our students by working in our community. Over the years, I've taught several different grade levels from elementary all the way to 8th grade. I love helping students feel more confident in their math journey.
I earned my B.A. in Elementary Education from USC Aiken and continued to complete courses to earn my middle school math certification. Since then, I've also completed my Gifted and Talented (GT) endorsement, and I am currently working towards my ESOL endorsement.
Every student is unique; therefore, learning happens best when it is individualized. I look forward to helping your student grow this year.
