Many volunteers have helped build the SBSLRR. One person could not have completed the following projects since the railroad’s inception in January 1999. We refer to these volunteers as TIE OWNERS.
Constructed 6000 feet of railroad track.
Denailed, cut, slotted and dipped 17,000 railroad ties (used 2 X 4's on edge).
Used 6000 pounds of aluminum rail.
Built 452 feet of locomotive/car indoor storage tracks.
Built 500 ten foot track panels.
Built and installed 52 switches (10 are pneumatic controlled).
Installed automatic signals at North Narrows and tunnel tracks.
Installed automatic signal (wig-wag) at drive way crossing and front gate.
Moved 200 tons of decomposed granite for track ballast.
Built 2 trestles and 1 bridge.
Built 37 rain water culverts.
Brought in approximately 450 yards of fill dirt.
Installed two hydraulic locomotive lifts.
Built 11 steaming bays and one lead-in track.
Fabricated 12 passenger riding cars.
Built 22 scale buildings for Swingtown, Brubakerville and Grantville.
Provided Christmas Train rides for 17 years, with new light displays each year.
