MIXED MEDIA

The concept behind this was to experiment with the subtractive method to create a design on a woven construction bag, allowing the pattern of the sarong cloth to show through. To prevent the woven material from falling apart, I used brown tape as a bold outline around the cut areas, making the entire subject more visible and prominent.

This work refers to the Chinese cultural practice of burning joss paper for ancestors, so they can use it as currency in the afterlife.

After my grandfather passed away, I often wondered if he actually received the joss paper we offered him. To express this thought, I used paper collage to recreate scenes from his life when he was still alive.
