Our history begins as a love 😍 story, one that rivals some of the most beautiful love stories you have heard.
A Military contractor, and Active Duty Army Soldier, both deployed overseas in 2007 during OIF in Balad Iraq. Unconventional love story beginning we know, but for JD "Proven" Sagley, who was a military contractor at the time, it was love at first sight when he saw Lisa. He was completely smitten, her beautiful eyes, blonde hair, and all of that "Tinkerbelle" energy drew him in instantly. After some persuasion Lisa's feelings for JD were reciprocated, and they married Sept 9th 2009.
Not much longer after that, Lisa left the military to become a civilian contractor along with JD, living at the time in Colorado Springs, newly married and ended up with a small black kitten that made itself at home in their apartment, this would have been the starting point, of what soon would become SBBF. They had talked and decided they wanted to look for a dog, so down to the humane society they went, originally going to adopt a small furry dog, on their way out, a young pit-bull mix was looking at them, Lisa was in love, wanting to go see this puppy. JD however, said "No thats a pit-bull they eat grandma's and babies!" (oh how those thoughts have changed)
Introducing Cinnamon, aka Cinny Bunny, shortly later, after Lisa and JD moved to Tennessee, working out of Fort Campbell, KY, they met and fell in love with a small bully mix puppy, that won Lisa's heart instantly, like most dogs did, and this is where we introduce Atilla the dog. This is where we also begin the life of rescue, adopting from the humane society, sparked a fire within Lisa, she wanted to be involved, to help, to make a difference. She had a hero's heart weather she wanted to believe it or admit it or not.
Fast Forward ⏩ a few years. SBBF is born, branching off from the Stewart County Humane Society, built on the backs and the dreams of Lisa, JD, and a group of their most trusted adopted "family"
Since the induction of SBBF hundreds of dogs have been saved, and have found their forever homes. Many of these dogs have since over the years crossed the rainbow bridge, and we have followed their stories, their lives, and stay in touch with their families.
Cinny and Atilla the dog are both gone now as well, crossed the rainbow bridge, and sadly, we also have lost Lisa, who unexpectedly left us on December 18th 2024. Leaving behind, her loving, devoted and heartbroken husband, their family both blood and adopted, and the rescue.
This is where the legacy comes into play, Lisa's dream was to save them, both people and animals, and in her honor, her memory and her name, we will continue to push forward, carrying her dream and her legacy on saving the dogs that need her, saving the humans that loved her, and finding everyone their special home with their forever love story.
