It is known that Data Centers can cause both health and environmental harm. However, the boom in development of these businesses reveal a ring of systemic processes that are causing citizens to have to fight to stop the development from destroying their mental and physical health, property values, energy usage, water, air and soil.
The purpose of this website is to bring community awareness and opposition to data center companies that are attempting to develop in Henrico County near residential homes, schools and small businesses in the Varina District. (Varina, Sandston, Highland Springs).
In addition, this website will serve as a guide for Henrico County citizens that live in the Varina District and will be impacted by the proposed data center coming to 2300 Darbytown Road, to learn what they can do to stop the development of these data centers, which are known for the potential impacts:
1. Potential degradation of quality of life and health for county citizens, pets, wildlife in the varina district.
2. Potential Impacts for the students, staff and teachers at the Baker Elementary, John Rolfe Middle School and Varina High School include, but are not limited to, health concerns, school bus safety concerns due increased daily traffic and construction/road closures, reduce student activities such as recess, afterschool practice and sport events, PTA outdoor fundraisers and events.
3. Quality and reduced property values for homes, small businesses and properties.
4. Lack of Transparency: Insufficient public consultation and unclear environmental impact assessments and pre-screenings for environmental concerns.
5. Limited Local Benefits: Minimal economic benefit to the community compared to environmental sacrifices and social costs.
6. Proposed increase Dominion Energy power bills.
7. Estimated 900 additional cars or more to travel daily on Darbytown road.
