The Sayl browser extension (Chrome and Edge) is a bridge between your browser and the Sayl desktop app installed on your computer. This policy explains exactly what the extension handles.
We collect no data. No accounts, no identifiers, no usage statistics, no analytics, no tracking.
We share no data with any third party, do not sell it, and do not send it to any server — including our own.
We do not read the content of the pages you visit.
When you start a download (or choose "Download with Sayl"), the extension reads: the file link, the referring page, the cookies of the site the file comes from only, the browser's User-Agent, and the file name, size and type when known.
This data is sent only to the Sayl app on the same computer through the browser's local Native Messaging channel, so the app can complete the download just as the browser would (for example, files that require signing in). This data never leaves your device.
When you choose "Download all selected links with Sayl", the extension reads the links inside the text you selected — only those, and only at that moment.
Videos on web pages: to detect videos, the extension observes the headers of network responses in the tab (URL, type, size) without reading, blocking or modifying their content, and keeps a short list (at most 30 entries) per tab in session-only memory, cleared when the tab navigates to another page, closes, or the browser exits. The floating button reads only the size and position of video elements on the page. When a video appears on a page (unless the feature is turned off or the site is excluded), the extension asks the Sayl app on the same computer in advance which qualities are available, so the menu opens instantly on click; for that it sends the app the page URL, the detected video URL, the cookies of the page and of the video's site, and the User-Agent. When you pick a quality from the "Download this video" menu (or use the send button in the popup), the page title and the chosen quality are added. All of this stays between the extension and the local app.
Downloads and videos from private (incognito) windows are never captured and always stay in the browser.
The extension stores only its settings (on/off, minimum size, excluded sites) in the browser's local storage on your computer; they are removed when you remove the extension. The list of detected videos is kept in session-only memory and never written to disk.
