UNH students have taken COVID-19 testing compliance very seriously! Students test twice a week and with our processing labs turning results around often on the same day, UNH has been able to identify COVID positive students quickly. This keeps the number of cases down on our campus as the potential of spread is quickly minimized.
The continued safety of our campus hinges on student testing, which is why UNH has clear protocols in place and consequences for students who miss tests. A student who has missed two tests will likely be banned from campus for the remainder of the semester. When a student is banned, they are not allowed to physically be present on campus. The consequences are significant, and the communication to students warning them of these consequences is everywhere.
If your student needs to miss a test because they will be away from campus, they must fill out an Exemption Request Form found on the main UNH COVID-19 website. If they fail to do this and miss a test because they are away from campus, it will count as one of their missed tests.
If you would like to keep track of COVID-19 case numbers on campus, take a look at the COVID-19 Testing Dashboard also found on this page. This website has a wealth of additional information!
The Department of Residential Life has recently updated its inclusivity statement. The new version is now hanging in every residence hall. You’ll find it attached below.
Given the necessity to curve COVID-19 on campus, UNH removed spring break from the campus calendar. To help break up the semester and provide some mini-breaks, UNH created two long weekends this spring. Weather cooperated recently as students enjoyed the first of these breaks. The second break is happening on Friday April 16th. This will be the perfect pause before students make the final push towards May and the end of the year.
Students notoriously add a lot of “stuff” to their rooms over the course of a year. If your car was full to the brim in August when you arrived on campus, there is a high likelihood that not everything will fit into that same car in May! If you happen to be coming to campus for a visit sometime before May, we encourage you to take a few bags home with you. Perhaps those hockey skates, bag of sweaters or unused pillows are no longer needed.
Residence halls officially close on Thursday May 20th at noon for all non-graduating students. When your student is ready to move home will be dependent on their finals schedule. The official last day of classes is Tuesday May 11th, with finals beginning on Friday May 14th and ending on the 20th. Check with your student to learn their individual schedule.
While our check out procedures are still be developed, students will need to return their key (in key buildings) and will be responsible for any damage that occurred in the room over the year. Students will receive additional move-out procedure information from their RA in about a month.
Unfortunately, we are confident that the Non-UNH guest restriction (including parents and guardians) will not be lifted in time for you to help your student move their belongings from their room. We know that the photos and Facetime sessions with your student does not replace getting to see in person where they have lived for the last year and are very sorry you’ve missed out on that experience. Thank you for understanding.
