Terran Ambrosone, 2015 - an oil painting of cats playing cards
Hair of The Dog
We begin with a surreal and humorous concept: a group of talking cats running a bar. But beneath the surface, the piece explores complex themes of exploitation, mortality, and chosen family. That tension–between absurdity and substance–is something I’m continuing to explore in my fiction.
Hunting Season
This piece focuses on a single mother who offers secret medical care to cryptids–creatures often pushed to the margins of folklore and legend. The story, while steeped in the supernatural, is deeply personal. It confronts generational trauma, guilt, and the limits of what one person can carry alone. Writing this piece allowed me to dig into more subtle emotional beats while maintaining a narrative grounded in mystery and magic.
