wanted interactions: The Team, and see page for canon divergent Ward & Deke. On a case by case for other agents who were in the first 3 seasons. Occasional few canon characters from Marvel, DC sci-fi/superheroes shows and if you can make it work with an alien in your universe, various sitcoms/modern tvshows. Occasionally I'll write with original characters and canon ones that I don't know if you have been writing with Jemma and you think your muse would work well with her .
open to romantic interactions with: men.
She would not interact with: Hydra members, canon compliant Ward, bad guys in general.

"You washed up on a desert island alone, sitting on the sand there is a box. What is in that box?"
"the TARDIS"
Name: Jemma Anne Simmons
Ships: Jemma has a hard time telling what she's feeling (demiromantic heterosexual). No crushes, no experience of romance besides Fitz. She enjoys casual sex. I've shipped her with canon divergent Ward, canon divergent Fitz and Hunter. Basically open to ship with all men she has chemistry with.
Family: by default nobody knows anything about it besides the fact that she has a father she seems to get along with, a mother, an older brother and a younger sister. Fitz might be aware that they are rich. Verse dependent & to be able to interact with Ward rpers: her mother is extremely abusive on top of working for Roxxon.
Marks: a small compass is tattooed on her bikini line (short teenage rebellion). She has a small scar on her left temple, another small one over her right eyebrow and a big one on her left leg, burn scars on her abdomen from being tortured, various small ones from missions.
Potentially triggering themes such as her suffering from PTSD (untagged because it's just part of who she is), all typical dark themes you find in Marvel like torture, abuse, gore etc, plus she's technically infertile because she can't have children with humans (she could with compatible aliens but they are pretty much impossible to find). So infertility tw (because it's a painful matter she may bring up), torture tw, abuse tw.
canonically she joined SHIELD as a biochemist (TWO phd's by age sixteen, she's beyond genius), had such a close relationship with the engineer Leo Fitz that they are known as Fitzsimmons by all and pushed him to join the 'field' life, because looking for adventure on top of learning more about alien biology.
She's socially awkward, extremely hopeful, very into things considered 'gross' by most, vindictive, scrappy, obsessive, the mom-friend.
The squad became like family to her, but there were heartbreaking betrayals, Fitz was permanently injured protecting her, she developed PTSD which was completely overlooked by the canon show except for a few scenes that demonized her for being afraid/having bad reactions, and after that she kept living some of the worst traumas possible, including being stranded on a hostile alien planet for six months, being tortured, watching many loved ones die, being considered the "outsider" of the group on many occasions due to her inability to voice her emotions and thoughts, acted as a double agent and more.
She started a relationship with Fitz and he became her primary focus. She never learned how to defend herself as much as the others. She's not an alien. I went canon divergent from every point of view, not only giving her different storylines but having her take every hit and FEEL it, so this alien!Jemma cannot be taken as a good portrayal of canon Jemma, who is able to stick all of her worries and fears and traumas in a box and act perfectly functional 99% of the time.
Our characters meet after season 4 of Agents of SHIELD. She has left SHIELD in an attempt to recover from the dozens of major traumas she just went through, unless plotted otherwise. She's single after breaking up with Fitz amicably (but also bitterly, in a 'we changed too much and lost our chance, I'm wrong for you' way), see the section for canon divergences.
Also if you play a Marvel character know that I never want to have anything to do with the Infinity War/Endgame, I am not dealing with the effects of half of the universe being wiped out either.
She will have gone through so much and be so traumatized that for a while, after meeting her, she'll be very closed off, her more 'violent' side coming out (the same who in the show was more than okay throwing a splinter bomb at Ward to disintegrate him) especially because her 'blood' sort of takes over every now and then, and it will take time before she'll show that she's a sweet caring woman who is also a socially awkward nerdy scientist. In fact she may not even share that she is a genius nor a scientist and focus only on the operative/alien who can protect people. While gruff, she's not going to be rude necessarily, more like May if you have seen agents of SHIELD but more hostile-sounding, even if her actions prove that she's trying to help.
She told Fitz about her alien blood after FZZT in s1 because her blood samples started changing. Between s1 and s2 she saw her skin turn scaly and left because of that too, but didn't tell Fitz anything about it (yet).
She couldn't have gone undercover in Hydra in this situation but she still left to go 'on a mission', as in she went to work on how to control her powers, so that she won't lose her human appearance, and started going on field missions.
She told Daisy and then Coulson after the inhuman powers reveal in s2 (as in when SHE learned about Daisy's inhuman status instead of thinking Daisy was a human who got potentially infected by an alien artifact). Then talked to May. The others found out because of the other SHIELD's attack one way or another.
If you are a GRANT WARD RPER you'll find reasons why they could interact at the bottom of this page.
Jemma had Chitauri DNA since birth, just a trace of it at first, that came from her great-grandfather’s experiments on himself (with the help of Roxxon) which had seemingly led to nothing. The real change was kickstarted by a Chitauri virus that infected her in AOS season 1, which changed her from human to something different. Jemma had never told anyone about her DNA; she refused to think about it until then. This Jemma cannot get pregnant from ordinary humans after s1 (let me know if this is triggering or I'll assume it's not) and her survivor's guilt, PTSD and having extra abilities pushed her to be less in the lab and more out in the field as time went. Ever since s2 she has to train so she can at least control her powers (and because no one else should get hurt for her).
She doesn't have all the Chitauri abilities, but:
she can make her skin hard enough to protect herself from bullets (and in that case it shows scales and it's grayer, which she's very ashamed of/disgusted by) but she's not invulnerable, she can still feel pain and doesn't control it perfectly. She gets distracted? She gets shot.
her eyes can turn yellow when she’s using powers or is very emotional. She has thermal vision, but it's hard to use and keep on.
she does have extra strength and an amazing memory like the Chitauri do, which is by far the easiest power to use. She can hurt herself using that strength when not ready, because her bones may not break but the rest of her body will if not hardened.
I'd say she inherited some of their blood-lust except that canon!Jemma is like that too, but also the animalistic push to follow her instincts, which makes her unable to repress emotions as much as she does in canon, meaning way more explosions of love/lust/anger/pain.
Like on all my Jemma blogs I'll heavily focus on her PTSD (there since s1), and on how she internalized the judgment she felt she received in s2 ("the scariest thing is you", "the only thing that makes him worse is you", and so on) and therefore she thinks of herself as a bad person who will do bad things to keep her Good People friends safe (unlike in canon she goes on missions and has more opportunities to kill and learn it doesn't faze her - like with Bakshi later on). This is heightened by her Chitauri blood (the epitome of 'evil'). Yet she wants/needs her closest friends to believe she'd never hurt them. Just them, though.
She also sees May as a mother-figure much to her embarrassment. Daisy is a sister to her (Jemma still freaks out after Porto Rico because scared for her). Coulson is both a father figure and a boss (complicated situations because she actually cares about her bio father), and adding Fitz to the mix you have a group of people that Jemma would do ANYTHING FOR.
Regardless of the ship she will NEVER be the hopeful girlfriend who spends her life trying to cheer up an always pessimistic/sad boyfriend and she was only friends with Will, which was draining enough since he had to be Doom.
She will ABSOLUTELY put the people she loves ABOVE the fate of the many. She won't follow orders if she disagrees nor put her job before her family. I know people have issues with her putting Fitz before everything and I understand. My solution is to make her even more like that: it's extended to immediate family like Daisy and she's ready to quit SHIELD if SHIELD can't make it work. She will kill/die for Fitz but also Daisy, Coulson and May (and potential rp-close friends). She's one step away from anti-hero or straight up there. In season 4 she HELPS Daisy by playing Mace. She grows petty and confident around this time.
By the end of season 4 she's VERY traumatized by all the violence-gore-death-torture she has lived. She'll have nightmares of being buried alive, flinch easily, snap at any positive talk of AI and be triggered by many little things.
I see Jemma as a great example of autistic woman and I could write essays about it, but a noticeable thing is that she has a hard time putting herself in someone else's shoes, for example realizing that Fitz would think she left because of him in s2. It didn't cross her mind because she'd never think that. She has only a few close friends, and social-things will never come easy to her.
While some of these things can never go away, and she will always need some guidance, in later seasons she'll have learned to check with Fitz or Skye/Daisy if what she's saying is creepy/inappropriate.
season 2
-She never had a problem with people being different in s2, but it looked like it. She was worried about another alien virus first, she was scared Skye would die over her changes until told about inhumans' existence (she didn't know those were new powers, she thought they were symptoms!), and she didn’t leave Fitz because she couldn’t ‘accept him’ but because she's making him worse. She still went overboard checking Daisy because worried her body would keep changing like hers did and maybe she'd also lose the ability to have children, something that HURTS Jemma a lot at this time. Probably looked even more horrified than in canon.
-I’m not bound by tvshow budgets so she'll start training in s2 to control her body better, and use all the tech available when on missions. She covers her face before battle since she can’t out herself as alien without endangering her bio sister. She needs to learn how to defend herself so people won't be hurt for her.
season 3
-Being stranded on Maveth was a big deal on every level and can't be brushed off in a couple of weeks.
-Her little sister Cat is back in her life around s3. Their mother can go from neglectful and toxic by default to physically abusive depending on the situation, in the latter case Jemma’s more likely to empathize with victims of abuse and be less harsh if they want a second chance, which she’d normally deny.
-With her powers she could have escaped Hydra in s3 but wouldn't have been able to protect Fitz, she chose to stay Malick and Ward's captive, and let Jiyera/Ward torture her for information. After she escaped she didn't need Lash's help but she accidentally broke him free while using her powers.
season 4
-After s3 she uses her 'double agent' status with Mace to keep her friends safe and help inhumans, and goes on missions a lot. She's not the healthiest person to have around. She absolutely helps Daisy in secret all the time but resents how easy it is to make others people she has betrayed them in favor of gaining power with Mace. Very here to write her passing Daisy info and being very casual about betraying Mace, because that's who she is.
-Unless I'm writing with a Fitz rper, eventually Jemma and Fitz realize that they aren't the people they fell in love with long ago, that there is too big of a lack of communication and too little helping each other because too involved in each other's traumas, and so they mutually break up some time before the Framework, right after Fitz's investigation about Radcliffe. When writing with Fitz rpers instead, things will have gone differently and there is no need to break up but she will need time away from him too after LMD Fitz and the horrors that followed, but if we ship we can happily make it all happen, since we'd be rewriting their story ever since s1.
-After the Framework, a traumatized Jemma wants to help but realizes that it's all too much right now, and she's in no position of being supportive. She's so visibly a wreck that Coulson (possibly Fitz too, and the others agree) tells her to run and let them handle the rest, and that they'll call her if she's really needed. She thinks the team disappeared because in hiding if you want to write their s5, otherwise from now on we go CANON DIVERGENT AND DO WHATEVER WE WANT.
season 5 aus for SHIELD characters
-Dekes are welcomed, but his grandfather wouldn't be Fitz unless plotted otherwise and with Kree-experimenting involved in her ability to get pregnant. There are three options here considering that Jemma can't have children with humans: 1) Jemma adopted a child before/after the end of the world and the child was Deke's mother (the speech about nothing in the universe is created or destroyed could be how they find the connection because Jemma told her daughter and her daughter told Deke), or 2) after the Kree took over, Kasius captured her, experimented on her, then kept her as a slave but also managed to successfully use her DNA to create at least one child, same way he did to create inhumans, a daughter Jemma got to raise before also being killed. This is the default backstory when I write with others. 3) Jemma got pregnant because of an unnamed special inhuman whose DNA also allowed the baby to survive the pregnancy. Up to Dekes,
-It's all open to plotting and changes, I only ask to not be involved in characters' deaths and especially Fitz's, aside from her having been told about Coulson and having seen him before he died in Tahiti if we choose to incorporate it in our plots.
If I follow you back from my main and you write Grant Ward (single blog or one muse in your multi) I am VERY likely to be interested, however Jemma is a particular muse and also has a... difficult backstory with canon Ward, so I ask you to please read this or at least part of it if you already have an au in mind, and if you want to let me know in ANY way which one you’d prefer, either writing it in tags if you reply to an open, or adding it to a meme you send, or in my ims, go for it:
Let's not forget Jemma is canonically vindictive, homicidal, (and petty, and can’t resist insulting and fighting people she doesn’t like), therefore threads with a Ward written exactly like he was in canon would not be possible, she’ll try to kill him or refuse to interact while silently plotting murder. However I am extremely open to AUs and here are some examples of possible plots that can always work if you need them (which I’m writing also because they involve how far I’m willing to take Jemma), as long as Ward isn't torturing people and/or giving up on the fact that he was only loyal to Garrett and turning fully Hydra instead:
-Ward never really betraying them (triple agent so his real personality only shows up in s2? Garrett was never Hydra?)
-Jemma coming to talk to him in vault D often, whether she left to go undercover or kept herself away from Fitz by going on missions and becoming even more of a Problem because she spent time with Ward, bonding with him because her abusive family gave her a different perspective and she has just found out about his past (if the other rper is willing to have Ward get attached to her too/not take the dark turn that canon did), and either him being given a second chance by Coulson because of it or with Ward having to break out with or without Jemma’s help because they are giving him to Christian like in canon, but keeping that bond with her because she gave him a second chance even if with bad consequences for her (which also means no joining Hydra, just destroying it)
-or with things going like in canon except he doesn’t torture Bobbi (since it’s too much to move past, the willingness to torture someone is different from him being the man Garrett wanted him to be) and he’s not Hydra either, just fighting it, so he becomes a frenemy of Jemma after breaking out in s2, they keep meeting on missions, and eventually the 'enemy’ part goes away.
-Or maybe he’s still lost, not doing good but also not murdering people, and crosses paths with Jemma for reasons to be decided, and they are put in a situation where they must cooperate, so we can have the chance to make them talk (Jemma brainwashed instead of Kara, for example)
-also there are lots of ship-oriented possible plots that I'd be open to but don't worry if you don't ship (going undercover with her in s2 and he was Hand-loyal and tricking Garrett, because when his real personality and motives came out things got very awkward with the team and Skye; him rescuing her from Maveth and keeping her in whatever safehouse he's staying; Jemma's parents are Roxxon and evil and they bonded over it, so he betrays Garrett because she's too important for him to accept that Garrett wants her dead? and so on)
-Basically if he’s not Hydra and doesn’t cross the limit of not hurting more SHIELD people after the vault, it’s a go. I ship them as broship and romantically depending how it goes, as long as you have a take on him that doesn’t involve him being evil.
To be clear, if you write him as fully evil/not having been manipulated by Garrett or Hydra loyal later, or want him to on murder sprees etc, you do you, not judging! But there is no au in which Jemma would want to interact with him for more than half a thread in which she tries to kill him.
