Name: Jemma Anne Simmons
Ships: Jemma has a hard time telling what she's feeling (demiromantic heterosexual). No crushes, no experience of romance besides Fitz. She enjoys casual sex. A lot. A loooot. Her second-best skill after being a genius. Even if I don't write it.
Family: by default nobody knows anything about it besides the fact that she has a father she likes, a mother, an older brother and a younger sister. Fitz might be aware that they are rich. Her mother is extremely abusive on top of working for Roxxon.
Marks: She has a small scar on her left temple, another small one over her right eyebrow and a big one on her left leg, burn scars on her abdomen from being tortured, various small ones from missions.

canonically she joined SHIELD as a biochemist (TWO phd's by age sixteen, she's beyond genius), had such a close relationship with the engineer Leo Fitz that they are known as Fitzsimmons by all and pushed him to join the 'field' life, because looking for adventure on top of learning more about alien biology.
She's socially awkward, extremely hopeful, very into things considered 'gross' by most, vindictive, scrappy, obsessive, petty, kind.
The squad became like family to her, but there were heartbreaking betrayals, Fitz was permanently injured protecting her, she developed PTSD which was completely overlooked by the show except for a few scenes that demonized her over being afraid, and after that she kept living some of the worst traumas possible, including being stranded on a hostile alien planet for six months, being tortured, watching many loved ones die, having to dig her way out of a mass grave, brainwashed Fitz shooting her, acted as a double agent and more.
She started a relationship with Fitz in s3 and he became her primary focus. She never learned how to defend herself as much as the others. She's not an alien.
I went canon divergent from every point of view, not only giving her different storylines but letting her REACT TO BAD THINGS, so this alien!Jemma cannot be taken as a good portrayal of canon Jemma, who is able to stick all of her worries and fears and traumas in a box and act perfectly functional 99% of the time.

She doesn't have all the Chitauri abilities, but:
she can make her skin hard enough to protect herself from bullets (it shows scales and it's gray/green-ish, which she's very ashamed of) but she's not invulnerable, she can still feel pain and doesn't control it perfectly. She gets distracted? She gets shot.
She has thermal vision, but it's hard to use and keep on, and it turns her eyes yellow and reptile-like.
she does have extra strength and an amazing memory like the Chitauri do, which is by far the easiest power to use. She can hurt herself using that strength when not ready (skin hard). It's a swing and a miss.

-100% convinced she's a model employee even though canonically Coulson learns of her and Fitz's existence after she convinces Fitz to 'borrow' (steal) a plane to test their new gas (it blows up). This is a recurring joke in this blog, she'll keep insisting she's a good girl even if there are dozens of canon instances in which she does whatever she wants behind a boss' back.
-She's also autistic in a very stereotypical way: special interests, fixation, not understanding social cues, being unable to put herself in Fitz's shoes (to the point of not realizing that keeping distance in s2 will inevitably make him think she's abandoning him), not realizing when she's saying scary stuff, hyperfocusing on things, wanting her routine.
-after she's infected by the chitauri virus in season 1, her body changes. It takes a few weeks for it to take effect, but the virus awakened the latent Chitauri DNA that has been present in her paternal family for generations, ever since they allowed Roxxon to experiment on them. She tells Fitz about this during the time-jump of Daisy recovering from the gut shots.
-Note: her mother had already tried to trigger this change through abuse, but it didn't work. Her father canonically teaches a child-Jemma to put her feelings in a box in her head, and I'll say it's because of her mother. Jemma let it happen under the threat that her mother and older brother would hurt her little sister Cat if she spoke up. Now Jemma knows what her mother wanted. [for ward rpers: if you are canon divergent and want Ward to go through a redemption arc as in never ever helping Hydra again, we can plot how this past will allow her to see Ward in a different light]
-while Fitz deals with brain damage after s1, Jemma finds out she cannot have children with humans anymore, something that really hurts her (let me know if it must skipped because triggering to you), and that her body is fully turning alien. She doesn't tell Fitz any of this because he's already dealing with enough. Much like in canon, she's overwhelmed by her inability to help Fitz in the 'right' way as well as her PTSD and survivor guilt (Fitz got brain damage saving her) and needs to get distance from him.
-She cannot go undercover in Hydra like in canon, so she throws herself into missions to spend time away from Fitz. This is also an excuse so she can try and learn to control her powers. Obviously she'll search for a way to change back.
-She tells Daisy and Coulson the truth after she finds out Daisy has alien blood too, but only after freaking out about Daisy's changes because, canonically, she has no idea 'inhumans' exist and thinks Daisy has been infected by an alien object that has killed Tripp and others. I am a GIANT fan of her friendship with Daisy and would love to have them deal with their separate but similar issues together.
-the rest of the team finds out through season 2 either because she tells or because they see her use her abilities.
-season 2 is when she's fully falling into the depths of PTSD, blaming herself for Fitz, for hurting him, but also being furious at him once she finds out he hid Daisy's transformation from her. This is also when her Chitauri blood starts changing her personality from canon, in the sense of her being unable to control her feelings and repress everything: her bloodlust, actual lust, love, hate, are all heightened. This also makes her feel even more of a monster in a very literal way. This is very important, because it will have an effect on all threads and plots, even more so as time passes and this becomes the norm. I also love to lean into the fact that canonically she was very okay murdering people, that she kept plotting (obsessed over Ward to the point of watching him every morning at five am to check his routine), kept saying scary things since s1 and nobody seemed to notice except for the small porto rico subplot.
-at the same time, her past makes her see Coulson and May in a more parenting light than canon, and have stronger family bonds with the team, especially Daisy. I saw her choose Fitz over the world in canon and I want to double-down and say she's loyal to the core team like that (potentially to your muse too). She thinks she's a bad guy who has to do bad things so her good friends don't have to, and she wants to be loved in spite of this but also hated because she deserves it.
-season 3 happens the same except Will is just a friend. No matter what, I will never write her in romances where she's the voice of hope while with someone who is always dark and pessimistic. I hate it as a trope but also Jemma IS the dark and tormented anti-hero who needs to be cheered up and was fixated on murder in s2. Someone who showed 100% social awkwardness in s1 as an adult wouldn't have somehow learned how to be the perfect therapist and cheerleader in the span of a couple of traumatic years, she can be hopeful for others but also only cheer someone up because she's being terrible at wording things. She sure tries hard, bless her heart.
-With her powers she could have fought Malick and Ward but lets them torture her to protect Fitz. The torture is being burned, which explains the canon lack of blood. She releases Lash by accident.
-after season 3, she helps Daisy by acting like a perfect little soldier to Mace, no reason for her and Daisy not to keep in contact. She becomes pettier and sassier around this time. In between threads she makes up with her sister Cat, who thought she had abandoned her to be a party planner. Jemma is trying to make up for her survivor guilt by going on plenty missions too.
-season 4 is one of the worst things I've ever seen happen to a character. she goes through several violent traumas in the span of ten days, including crawling out of her grave, having to kill 'Fitz', real Fitz almost killing her. Beyond too much.
BEFORE THAT, if you don't write a Fitz, she and Fitz realize they changed too much from the people they were when he fell in love with her, and split up semi-amicably (very painfully). So AFTER the Framework she's so blatantly broken and out of control that everyone agrees she should take a break away from them. If you write a Fitz and ship them, they can work things out and take a different direction.
-she leaves SHIELD, never goes to the future. Deke can still exist as the son of a woman she adopted in that non-existent future, or more likely, since we need him to be biologically related for them to find out who he is, he exists because she was experimented on to try to have her DNA continue on, except that the chitauri bit wasn't transferred to her daughter. Inheriting only works pre-transformation.
-if you meet her now, she'll be blatantly traumatized. You cannot touch her neck without her freaking out, but all the other traumas are now hitting more than ever: Maveth, watching Fitz drawn, being a 'monster', tripp in pieces, being buried... she might not be hostile but it will be obvious that she's in serious trouble and unable to have normal conversations with people. I can tone it down if asked, but Jemma is very okay with the idea of dying ever since season 2 and more so now.
-I do not want to be involved in canon character deaths and possibly in the snap or blip, I don't like those plots at all. She's still a supergenius scientist but your character may not realize it right away because she's desperate to fight her way into feeling at peace. I'll always put some humor in how okay with murder she is, though.
potential au in the au: in s2 she has a full breakdown eventually, and while she still loves May and Daisy, she fights with everybody else and leaves to do her vigilanting in the punisher-style, while trying to defeat her family and personal enemies. She acts like she doesn't care about anything anymore, but really needs help.

If I follow you back from my main and you write Grant Ward (single blog or one muse in your multi) I am VERY likely to be interested, however Jemma is a particular muse and also has a... difficult backstory with canon Ward, so I ask you to please read this or at least part of it if you already have an au in mind, and if you want to let me know in ANY way which one you’d prefer, either writing it in tags if you reply to an open, or adding it to a meme you send, or in my ims, go for it!!! I want you to have fun!
Jemma is canonically vindictive, homicidal, (and petty, and can’t resist insulting and fighting people she doesn’t like), therefore threads with a Ward written exactly like he was in canon would not be possible, she’ll try to kill him or refuse to interact while silently plotting murder. However I am extremely open to AUs and here are some examples of possible plots that can always work if you need them (which I’m writing also because they involve how far I’m willing to take Jemma), as long as Ward isn't torturing people and/or giving up on the fact that he was only loyal to Garrett/not joining Hydra:
-Ward never really betraying them (triple agent so his real personality only shows up in s2? Garrett was never Hydra?). I want to say that the two of them bonded the least in the team (and she was so ready for him to die as soon as he betrayed them) so the real bonding will happen in our threads.
-Jemma coming to talk to him in vault D often, whether she left to go undercover or kept herself away from Fitz by going on missions and becoming even more of a Problem, because she spent time with Ward instead of him, bonding with him because her abusive family gave her a different perspective and she has just found out about his past (if the other rper is willing to have Ward get attached to her too/not take the dark turn that canon did), and either him being given a second chance by Coulson because of it OR Ward has to break out with or without Jemma’s help because they are giving him to Christian like in canon. Either they legit have to run away together (and she's in danger from her family too anyway) or it's more similar to canon but he knows she wasn't a part of it and they keep in touch.
-or things going like in canon in s2 except he doesn’t torture Bobbi and he’s not Hydra either, he's fighting it, so he becomes a frenemy of Jemma who is done trying to kill him because she has other nemesies. They keep meeting on missions, and eventually the 'enemy’ part goes away. Not gonna lie, also looking forward to Grant going from knowing s1 cutie Jemma to hanging with murder-Jemma who sasses him but has bigger fishes to fry.
-Or maybe he’s still lost, not doing good yet but also not murdering people, and crosses paths with Jemma for reasons to be decided, including her settling her own scores in the au where she has a breakdown in s2 and leaves SHIELD or after season 4 like normal, and they are put in a situation where they must cooperate, so we can have the chance to make them talk. I don't know if they'll make each other better or worse.
-also there are lots of ship-oriented possible plots that I'd be open to but don't worry if you don't ship (going undercover with her in s2 and he was Hand-loyal and tricking Garrett; him rescuing her from Maveth and keeping her in whatever safehouse he's staying; Jemma's parents are Roxxon and evil and they bonded over it, so he betrays Garrett because she's too important for him to accept that Garrett wants her dead, and because season 1 lasted way longer so the love for the team won over the brainwashing? and so on)
-Basically if he’s not Hydra and doesn’t cross the limit of not hurting more SHIELD people after the vault, it’s a go. I ship them as broship and romantically depending how it goes, as long as you have a take on him that doesn’t involve him being evil.
To be clear, if you write him as fully evil/not having been manipulated by Garrett or Hydra loyal later, or want him to on murder sprees etc, you do you, not judging! But there is no au in which Jemma would want to interact with him for more than half a thread in which she tries to kill him.
