Lynn Austen (OC)

HER MOTHER IS ANNA AUSTEN, also an oc, and that's why she's here, to explain how Lynn came to be.

• fandom-dependent, but in one way or another, people can be given man-made powers by a company (Roxxon) that is manufacturing superheroes, by default it's through serums injected in them (if they don't die, they get powers). 

• One of this world's worst villains, real name John but he can have aliases (OR you can use a pre-existing canon character who can fit this backstory), is the first to be born with powers, after his 'superhero's father was used as a donor to inseminate a 'super-powered' girl. John is used as a literal lab-rat, tortured to be tested, told his mother died so he would see the scientists as a family and be easier to manipulate. He grows into a monster (who has some big parental issues and seems incapable of killing his father, clearly wanting his love and approval, just like he never stopped wanting unconditional love in general), and he's in his forties by the time Lynn is around. 

• Cryogenic sleep also exists. People generally don't know about the power-giving serum, they think some are just gifted superheroes that Roxxon is bringing to the public to save them. 

• Anna Austen is a very young runaway orphan, and she's given a shot of the power-giving serum at age 15 after she agrees to carry the pregnancy for money. She gets laser-eyes. 

• Anna has a C-section and is told the baby died. 

• She's kept her alive because her body might be needed for tests, or to help John, and sent on her way. She acquired powers similar to John's, but weaker (except her laser-eyes, which grow stronger than his instead), due to the natural exchanges between mother and fetus. This means: super strength, super resistance to hits, flying, x-ray vision, and more. For the next few years she's gone, but life is not kind to her. She's bitter and full of regrets, and starts growing suspicious of the company that used her.

• she schemes and plots, trying to play Roxxon's employees, until she seduces the right one and learns about the lab. She snaps. She tries to find "John" but can't. She learns she's pregnant again, though she has already killed the father (the guy she seduced). With another baby, she's even more under their control. Anna takes the deal that she can raise this baby if she lets go of her firstborn, but she's lying.

• She has Lynn, an ordinary child, and tries to care for her; Lynn lives with constant comparisons to her brother, and her mother's explosive anger and 'tough it up' attitude, some abuse, slaps, and conditional approval. Lynn is told that she has a brother who is being hurt by Roxxon, without details, and that they must do everything they can to rescue him. Since Roxxon is too strong, they must cooperate. 

• for the next 15 years, Anna has to wait and help Roxxon in whatever way she can while dreaming of being a mother to John. Then she's clawing for power, going on missions, making herself essential so that she'll be allowed to see her son (impossible, they all know he'd be capable of killing everyone at Roxxon once he has his mother's love), forcing Lynn to drop out of school and do the same. At 16, Lynn becomes an operative and then a specialist, sent to kill people in other countries and to retrieve intel. She hates her brother. She desperately wants to save him. She wants her mother to have her family. She wants to be good enough. 

• While Anna has a bit of a 'women are better' vibe, she also has toxic masculinity ideas that she somehow pushes on Lynn as well: don't cry, be strong, don't be weak like a girl. Men are animals (except your brother, who is the best), no one should be needy (except your brother, I hope he'll want me close), I expect you to be the best at everything (so we can get your brother). Lynn does want to save that brother, even if jealous and furious that her life was sacrificed for him. 

• Eventually Anna understands they'll never let them see John, and tries to physically reach him: she's captured, put in cryo. Lynn, now in her early twenties, against her better judgment, tried to help: she's captured and later put in cryo, but only after being thoroughly punished and still sent to do a few missions under the threat of her mother being killed. this is how Anna is around 40 years old, but Lynn is in her mid-twenties, she spent less time frozen.

• Anna is awakened many years later by accident and gets her daughter. Any attempt to communicate with her son fails, she has to join criminals while continuing her crusade, while Lynn goes into hiding for a while. She has the opportunity to get her hands on the serum and takes it: she gets the power to create a silence field: no sound from inside can be heard (both she and Anna are disappointed). She has the super strength and resistance all supes seem to have, nothing 'special'.
