The European Union is on the verge of weakening key protections for air passengers that have been in place for over 20 years. The Council has proposed changes that would drastically limit passengers’ ability to receive compensation when flights are delayed or cancelled.
Less Time: Compensation would only apply after 4-hour delays, up from the current 2-hour rule.
Less Money: Payments could drop by €100 or more for many flights.
Fewer Rights: The changes would roll back core protections, setting a dangerous precedent.
Most flight delays are under 4 hours — meaning the majority of travelers would lose their right to compensation. These changes favor airline profits over passenger protection.
We call on the EU to:
Stop the rollback of EU Regulation 261/2004.
Preserve current thresholds for delay
