On February 27, 2025, GUHSD Governing Board members voted 4-1 to approve Agenda Item C2 (Resolution 2025-29). Cuts are not final until May 15th.

While many of the 30 temporary and non-reelect positions have indeed been funded by "COVID" funds that are expiring, these are positions that have now become an essential part of our school staffing that students and staff rely upon. Notably, this number includes 19 school counselors. For a typical comprehensive campus, this means that a counseling team of 5 credentialed school counselors will now be reduced to 3, representing a 40% cut to counseling staffing. This means that each counselor will have an increased student caseload, plus one of the counseling positions being eliminated was one specifically designated to focus on mental health services for students who continue to demonstrate high needs.
