The Sally Lightfoot crab feeds on green and red algae and seaweed from lava rocks. They are opportunistic predators, in other words they will eat anything they can find. like other crabs, barnacles, dead fish, eggs, bird droppings, baby sea turtles or penguins, and much more. They Sally Lightfoot crab preys on Galapagos penguins' eggs, so the relations ship is as predator and pray.
The Sally Lightfoot crab has ten legs and is able to run in four directions, it can be as big of 8 centimeters and its average weight is unknown. Sally Lightfoot crabs are scavengers, they have a bright color; they can be found in the Galapagos Islands and the western coast of South and Central America. They are a very important part in the Ecosystem since they eat even other crabs, so they clean the shores maintaining them clean. They are very agile and can jump from rock to rock, so they are very difficult to catch. The Sally lightfoot crabs can be see on any Galapagos beach shoreline, they like to hang out close to lava rocks or tidal pots. Sally lightfoot crabs and Galapagos marine iguanas have a symbiotic relationship; the crab eat the ticks, skin parasites and dead skin of the marine iguana, so the crab gets food and the marine iguana gets clean. The female Sally Lightfoot crab holds their eggs on the stomach until they hatch into the water then the larvae swims into deep waters where they will feed on phytoplankton and molt multiple times until they go to metamorphosis to reach juvenile statutes and swim to shore.
