In 2027, the State of New Jersey plans to build a new boat launch facility at Brown's Point, including a large paved parking area. To date, no state agency has offered the disc golf community a plan for relocating or redesigning the course, despite more than thirty five years of continuous public use on this site.
Green Acres Status and Environmental Impact
Brown's Point is preserved under New Jersey's Green Acres program, land set aside specifically to protect public outdoor recreation for current and future generations. Construction of the boat launch and parking lot will require removing established, healthy trees along the shoreline. We believe any project on Green Acres encumbered land should be required to formally document how it protects, rather than diminishes, existing public recreational use before construction begins.
An Established Recreation Use Deserves a Seat at the Table
Brown's Point Disc Golf Course is used by local, taxpaying New Jersey residents and homeowners, including families and a disc golf club that has organized charity tournaments on this site for over twenty five years. We are not opposed to improved boating access to Greenwood Lake. We are asking that the disc golf community, an established and heavily documented user group, be treated as a stakeholder in this project rather than displaced without consultation.
Â
A Green Acres property is meant to protect public recreation for everyone, not replace one use with another.
We are asking for a seat at the table, not a veto over the boat launch.
