Welcome to the DIY Cobra Lantern Directions!
This is a 10 year old and up lantern due to the cutting.
You will need the following items to begin...
Print on card stock. HERE is the pdf of the cobra.
Buy the following:
a light source (small flashlights work well)
exacto knife
Tape (ideally packing tape, but masking or scotch tape will work)
a stick (around 18 inches)
Markers, paint, crayons, colored pencils, etc
Enhance your cobra with color (markers, crayons, colored pencils, paint).
Find a surface that likes an exacto knife...a cardboard box or cutting board works great! Carefully cut out your cobra!
Cut out the mouth and 5 slits with the exacto knife.
(optional: Cut out eyes too, but only the black part!)
Cut the slit above the logo for the bamboo stick.
STEP 5:
Remove cap from bottom of flashlight & take out red tab. Replace cap.
STEP 6:
Slide the bamboo stick into the slit.
STEP 7:
Flip the cobra over to push the stick up to just under the cobra's mouth.
STEP 8:
Carefully flip the cobra back over to mark a line on stick as a guide to tape the flashlight.
STEP 9:
Using tape, secure the flashlight (light pointing up) onto the bamboo pole using line as your guide. Align the top of the flashlight with the line.
STEP 10:
(Option: Remove the ring & strap on flashlight) Poke the stick into the slit & flip over cobra.
STEP 11:
Make sure to line up the stick in the center.
STEP 12:
Tape the top of the stick and the slit where the pole comes out.
STEP 13:
Tape the tongue & fangs down (optional: color both sides of tongue).
STEP 14:
Flip the cobra over and curl or bend the tongue for fun!
STEP 15:
Roll the side with slits over to meet the other slide (do not cover slits when matching up the sides).
STEP 16:
Make sure to maintain the cylinder shape before you tape the seam.
STEP 17: Decide on how you want your tail to look & tape it on! sideways/in front of/behind your hand.
STEP 18:
Add any final touches! Consider coloring the bottom side of the tongue or add color to slits.
