Growing up, I always thought that “if only I lived in town” life would be so much better. I got told I couldn’t go places because my parents just got back from town and they didn’t want to waste more gas by dropping me off and picking me back up. Even though I thought that then, I know now that I would never trade growing up on a farm for anything. I remember growing up with my older brother, Cole, and my younger sister, Lilly, and jumping on the trampoline, and running on the hay bales all throughout the year.
When I got to high school and finally got my own car, I thought it was the coolest thing. I realized I didn’t have to wait for my parents or my older brother to take me places. Owning a car is when I decided I could actually do a lot more things than I realized. I became very involved in all sorts of clubs and sports. Some of those are KAY (Kansas Association for Youth), FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America), SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions), student council, and FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America). I am still in all of those clubs and I have been since freshman or sophomore year. A couple of them I have served as a board member for most of my high school years as well.

Besides clubs, I have taken several other steps to help my future self become not only a middle school teacher but just a better person as well. I have taken a couple of classes about family studies and nutrition and wellness throughout high school as well as taking a full year of teacher aiding for the grade I wish to teach at. While being in those classes I have learned so much about family dynamics, not from the class called “Family Studies”, but in reality, while I teacher-aid I see so many different family situations, and since I have such a passion for teaching I know the information will be very helpful. Besides those classes, I also stepped out of my comfort zone and decided to take photography my junior year and I ended up loving it! I liked it so much that I am now a Media Coordinator for our school yearbook, The Radar. I have a very strong passion for photography, and I take pictures at almost every sporting event that I can physically make it to, along with almost all of the activities that take place at the school.
Being a senior the scary decision of where to go to college has been in all of our minds, so I finally decided to attend the University of Sioux Falls in South Dakota. Not only do I think it is perfect for me, but I can’t wait to further my education and faith with a fresh surrounding. I was encouraged by family and friends to go out of my comfort zone and to look somewhere besides Manhattan, Kansas, so that’s exactly what I did. I was fortunate enough to actually know someone who went there and that’s how I decided to check the school out, and it was love at first sight… I immediately knew that was where my next four years would take place.
When I visited USF for the first time!
After hopefully graduating from USF in 2026, I hope to pursue my teaching career and further my love for photography as well. Although I have a lot of ties back home, I am excited to see what Sioux Falls has in store for me and my future. I know that wherever I end up, I will make the best of life and try my hardest to make a difference for my future family and students.
