This Privacy Policy describes how Satlens ("Satlens", "we", "our", or "us") handles personal data when you use the Satlens Android application (the "App").
This policy is written to support compliance with:
- Google Play Developer Program Policies and User Data policies
- Applicable data protection laws, including India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 ("DPDP Act"), where applicable
By using the App, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy.

It does not apply to:
- Third-party websites/services we do not control
- Device/OS level processing by Google, Android OEMs, network carriers, or other external providers

3) QUICK SUMMARY

- No mandatory account signup is required to use Satlens.
- We do not sell personal data.
- We do not run third-party advertising SDKs for personalized ads in the current app version.
- Core app computations happen on-device.
- Camera and location are permission-based and used for app functionality.
- Satellite orbital data is fetched from public online sources when requested by the user/app action.

4) DATA WE PROCESS

A) Location Data (Precise/Approximate)
What we process:
- Latitude, longitude, altitude, and location accuracy from device location services (if permission granted)
Why:
- To calculate observer-based sky positions and improve astronomy pointing accuracy
Where processed/stored:
- Primarily processed on-device
- Last/manual observer location may be stored locally on your device for continuity
- Not uploaded to our own backend servers by default app behavior
B) Camera Access
What we process:
- Live camera stream for visual backdrop mode
Why:
- To provide live sky-overlay experience
Where processed/stored:
- Processed in real time on-device
- We do not intentionally record/store/upload camera photos or videos to our servers
C) Sensor Data
What we process:
- Device orientation/motion data (for example, compass/gyroscope-related orientation)
Why:
- To align sky objects with device direction
Where processed/stored:
- On-device during feature operation
D) App Preferences and Local Data
What we process/store locally:
- Display settings, observation preferences, calibration offsets, saved object selections, manual coordinates, and orbital cache files
Why:
- To preserve your settings and improve app usability between sessions
E) Network Requests to Public Data Providers
What happens:
- The app may download satellite orbital elements (TLE data) from public providers such as CelesTrak:
https://celestrak.org/
Important:
- Requests are made from your device over the internet
- Third-party endpoints may receive technical metadata (e.g., IP address, user-agent, timestamps) as part of normal web communication
- We do not intentionally attach account-based personal identifiers in these requests

5) DATA WE DO NOT INTENTIONALLY COLLECT

We do not intentionally collect:
- Payment card or banking data
- Government ID numbers
- Contacts, call logs, SMS content
- Health records
- Biometric identity templates
- Satlens account credentials (no user account system in current version)

6) LEGAL BASIS FOR PROCESSING

Depending on jurisdiction, we rely on one or more of the following:
- Consent (for permissions such as location/camera)
- Legitimate use/legitimate interests for core service functionality and security

For India (DPDP context):
- Consent is the primary basis for personal data processing unless a lawful legitimate use applies under the DPDP Act.

7) HOW WE USE DATA

- Provide core astronomy functionality
- Compute sky positions based on observer location and time
- Render camera-backed and dark-sky modes
- Save your app preferences locally
- Download and refresh orbital data
- Maintain app stability, security, and abuse prevention

We do NOT use your data for:
- Selling personal information
- Cross-context behavioral advertising
- Data brokerage

Because internet infrastructure is global, network traffic related to third-party services may be processed in countries other than your own. Such processing is handled under third-party legal frameworks and safeguards, where applicable.

11) DATA RETENTION

Retention principles:
- We retain data only as long as needed for purposes described in this policy
In practice:
- Local app preferences/manual location remain until changed, app data is cleared, or app is uninstalled
- Cached orbital data remains locally until refreshed/replaced/removed
- Third-party endpoint logs are retained per those providers’ own policies

12) SECURITY

We apply reasonable technical and organizational measures, including:
- Android app sandbox and permission model
- Encrypted transport (HTTPS) where supported for network requests
- Data minimization for feature operation
No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; absolute security cannot be guaranteed.

13) YOUR CONTROLS

You can control processing by:
- Granting/denying/revoking Camera and Location permissions in Android settings
- Switching to manual coordinates instead of live location
- Clearing app storage
- Uninstalling the app

- We act as a Data Fiduciary for personal data processed through the App.
B) Notice and Consent
- We provide notice of categories of personal data and purposes in this Privacy Policy.
- By granting permissions and using relevant features, you provide consent for such processing where required.
- You may withdraw consent by revoking permissions and/or discontinuing use.
C) Data Principal Rights
Subject to applicable law, you may have the right to:
- Obtain information about your personal data processing
- Seek correction, completion, updating, or erasure
- Grievance redressal
- Nominate another person to exercise rights in case of death/incapacity (where legally applicable)

- If you believe a child has provided personal data contrary to applicable law, contact us for prompt review and action.

16) CALIFORNIA AND OTHER REGION-SPECIFIC RIGHTS

Where laws such as CCPA/CPRA or other regional privacy laws apply:
- We do not "sell" personal information

17) BACKUP, DEVICE TRANSFER, AND RESTORE

Depending on Android/Google backup settings, some app-local data may be included in cloud backup or device transfer and restored later. These processes are controlled by your platform/provider settings.

18) AUTOMATED DECISION-MAKING

We do not use personal data for legal/significant solely automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects about users.

19) DO NOT TRACK

Traditional browser "Do Not Track" signals are generally not applicable to core native app functionality in Satlens.

20) CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY

We may update this policy to reflect product, legal, or operational changes.
Updated versions will display a revised "Last Updated" date.
Material changes may be additionally communicated in-app or via listing updates where appropriate.

21) GOOGLE PLAY DATA SAFETY CONSISTENCY

We aim to keep this Privacy Policy consistent with Google Play Data Safety disclosures.
If data practices change (for example, adding analytics, ads SDKs, cloud accounts, crash reporting, or new third-party SDKs), we will update this Privacy Policy and related Play Console disclosures as required.
