According to Satinder Pal Singh Madhok autism Spectrum Disorder(ASD) is a common term used for development disorders that are neurological in origin and cause difficulty in social and language communication in children or adults. Children with ASD might also have hypersensitivity towards loud noise or certain fabrics. Satinder Singh Madhok says these kids have trouble interacting with the world around them but they can acquire skills that will help them lead methodical and organized lifestyle with good family support. There is three types of autism spectrum disorders:
This is also called classic autism. People with significant communication delays and challenges with unusual behavior and interests along with intellectual disability suffer from Autism disorder.
Children and adults suffering from this high functioning syndrome have minor symptoms of autistic disorder. They do not have problem with language/communication or intellectual disability but they do have significant issues with social/emotional skills so they have social challenges and unusual behavior or interests. Consequently interaction with society remains a major issue.
This is also known as Atypical Autism whose sufferer meets some criteria for autistic disorder or Asperger syndrome but not all. They have fewer and milder symptoms than Asperger syndrome so they only find difficulty in socializing with people or language communication. A child suffering from PDD might exhibit speech delays and certain repetitive behaviors.
It’s a rare and severe disorder linked to defect in X chromosome hence it mostly effects girls. First there is a normal period of development followed by deterioration in skills with loss of communication and purposeful hand movements.
According to Satinder Pal Singh Madhok It’s a very rare disorder in which there is absolutely normal development in all areas initially but the onset of regression of skills happens later in life. So language, social, behavioral , motor and intellectual skills degenerates making it difficult for adults to lead a normal life.
Earlier all the above disorders were diagnosed and treated separately but now these disorders are grouped together under one umbrella call Autistic Spectrum Disorder. Parents and relatives go through enormous stress when their child is diagnosed with autism.
You need full time care taker and plan activities keeping the interest of child in mind so raising a child with autism is quite challenging. Attending some training sessions with counselors to acquire right knowledge will strengthen you emotionally and physically. Joining support groups or connecting with similar parents is also important to cope up with situations in life.
