Core areas of focus during the year 2023:

Next year, we will see further development and improvement. Something that I am excited and passionate about.Core areas we want to focus on during the year 2024:

Shovel of Giving

Sis. Sunitha DSouza

Headmistress (NS)

A tiny word of thanks and appreciation…The Lord sees our goodness.

A small gesture of timely help and assistance… The Lord sees our nobility.

A genuine smile of encouragement and support… The Lord sees our benevolence.

As we draw the curtain on another enriching academic year at Holy Cross School, Agartala, I find myself filled with profound gratitude to God. This year has been a tapestry of diverse experiences, collaborative teamwork, and a collective commitment to the resilient spirit that defines our unique school community.

Amidst the various challenges and triumphs, it becomes evident that success is not solely the result of human effort. Rather, it is a blessing bestowed upon us with the divine assistance of the One who calls us to share our knowledge and gifts. This belief in the power of sharing is beautifully encapsulated in the metaphor of the 'shovel of giving.

Let me share a poignant story that resonates with this philosophy. An elderly Christian, celebrated for his selfless charitable acts, was questioned by a curious youngster about the secret behind his seemingly boundless generosity. His response was simple yet profound: "As I shovel out, He shovels in! And the Lord has a Bigger Shovel than me!" This metaphor illustrates that by giving and helping others, the divine force reciprocates with even greater blessings.

In the context of our school, every teacher is envisioned as embodying the wisdom of sharing, kindness, and generosity. The expectation is that through these virtues, teachers not only impart knowledge to the student community but also foster an environment where the development of knowledge thrives through collaborative learning.

As we reflect on the year gone by, let us carry forward the lessons of gratitude, resilience, and shared wisdom. Together, as a school community, we continue to embrace the 'shovel of giving,' confident that the blessings we bestow upon others will be reciprocated in ways beyond our imagination. Here's to a year of growth, compassion, and the enduring spirit of Holy Cross School.

Adventure awaits around every corner

Sis. Veronica Sentei

Headmistress (MS)

The year commenced with great enthusiasm and a strong sense of hope, which has endured through numerous successful events and remarkable moments in our school. Daily observations of little ones growing and learning, joyfully pursuing knowledge fill me with hope regarding the quality and impact of the current and future trajectories. I am also filled with gratitude for all the the teaching and non-teaching faculty as well as the parents alongside whose tireless effort contribute to boosting the potential of the students. I have experienced their support in various ways.

The strong relationship patterns and trust among the Principal, Vice Principal and staff are what makes our school vibrant and appealing, facilitating students’ excellence in their academic performance.

Regular co-curricular activities enable the students gain confidence and improve in their all-round development. The various activities conducted in the school serve as an anchor for students to be responsible and find creative ideas, coupled with a daring spirit to walk the untrodden path for their growth.

The eagerness of the students to learn and their quick grasp of concepts are remarkable, reflecting their readiness and voluntary commitment to academic pursuits as well as co-curricular activities. Additionally, the active involvement and genuine interest demonstrated by parents in the development of their children further enhance the overall educational experience.

Overall, my experience as the headmistress of the morning shift has been truly inspiring. The harmonious collaboration and shared goal among the Principal and staff contribute to a positive learning environment. Witnessing such a collective commitment to education and the growth of the students has been a source of great inspiration for me in my role at the school.

Never stop learning because life never stops teaching

Sis. Shareena

Co-ordinator (Andre Block)

In today’s digitally immersed world, children are increasingly exposed to various forms of media and technology. While this digital exposure can offer numerous benefits and opportunities for learning, it also presents challenges for overall development.

As the coordinator of noon shift, I have been fortunate to be entrusted with the responsibility of the senior most group of students in the school. The students of this age group face a number of problems like peer pressure, academic stress, lack of identify, parents expectations, loneliness, fear of punishment, lack of freedom and inattentiveness. This is where the parents and teachers role becomes very important. If the students feel heard and valued they form a deeper connection with their educators. Thus they are more likely to be ready and open to learning. I feel an open door policy established by the management has encouraged both students and teachers to approach them with any concerns or suggestions they may have.

Students are very precious and they have to looked after with care, diligence and wisdom. They are the future of our country. So let us mould our children who are the living messengers for a good society.

Live A Little! Learn A Lot!!

Devidatta Bose

Co-ordinator (NS)

As the year draws to a close and all of us get into the mood for relaxation and festivities, I would urge our students to make time to develop new interests and pursue hobbies, travel (if possible!) to see new places, get new experiences and create memories. For, it is not only bookish knowledge that we should aspire for knowledge comes in many forms and it is actually the ‘know-how’ that creates a beautiful life. Knowledge is knowing the facts and figures of any given thing and know how is how we utilize knowledge to the best of our abilities to create a beautiful life for ourselves.

Taking time out to pursue our interests or new experiences, expands our world by allowing us to engage with our self and others, in a new way. Research shows that novelty activates our dopamine system which enhance our mood and positive outlook. It may also make us more creative, more motivated and better able to adjust to stress. It helps us get out of our patterns and helps show us our own competence. Any activity where we stretch ourselves and learn something new, counts. It helps to build our self-esteem which is of utmost importance when life’s blows hit us, as they sometimes will. ‘Lift your head high and accentuate the positive’ should be our motto. Expect the best, prepare for the worst and be grateful for it all.

Happy vacations!!

The only way to do great work is to love what you do

Debasree Sinha

FLN Co-ordinator (MS)

From the day I was entrusted with the responsibility of the FLN Coordinator till this moment as I sit to write this article the journey felt like a new born baby exploring new things each day. Being a part of such thoughtful education policy is a challenging task. Thankfully I am surrounded by creative minds and supportive hands to ease my shoulders. Truly speaking if it hadn’t been for innovative ideas from students and the ever so cooperative faculty it would have been impossible to incorporate FLN in the school curriculum.

Designing classroom activities to suit as well as to stimulate the intellect of the students was quite demanding. But the enthusiasm all around pulled it out. The concept of Worksheets was a breakthrough. Every occasion was more invigorating than the other. It was an absolute delight to watch the students embrace this new education policy with open arms.

I feel regular interactive sessions of FLN adoption by other institutions of the state to learn and share ideas might boost up the mission.

PRO

My present attachment with the school as PRO and motivator in the year 2023 is very unique. I am happy to have played an instrumental role in managing and moderating public events, ensuring that school’s image and reputation were always upheld. Each day I met a lot of people from different socio economic and intellectual strata. My experience as the school PRO provided me with the skills and expertise needed to navigate complex communication challenges such as crisis management and conflict resolution in a calm and composed manners.

Our school motto’ “Educating heart and mind” gets reflected in every aspect of school’s activity and operation. We believe that fundamental purpose of education is to encourage the students to bring about a positive modification in their behaviour and overall personality development.

I am thoroughly enjoying the fulfilment of my responsibilities. Providing the values of the institution is a great privilege and brings me immense joy.

Reflections - 2023

Reshmi Paul

Teachers' Rep. (NS)

'Before you are a leader, success is all about growing yourself. When you become a leader, success is all about growing others' - Jack Welch.

The year began with a meaningful orientation program and we were all geared up for the new academic session. The year was slightly special as I was elected as the Teachers' Representative of NS along with Mr. Avijit Paul. We were apprehensive of the post as we had to shoulder the responsibility to organize and conduct all the events earmarked for this session, but the trust which the authority placed on us made us believe - "Yes I can ".

As leaders we mobilize others by coalescing people around a shared vision and being open to new ideas and approaches. Many striking events made their debut this year. The very special 76th Independence Day with a tableau display by the 8 houses of the school in the streets of Agartala and the Inter school Science Expo on Sustainable development: an effort towards better tomorrow to resonate G20's commitment. Nearly 20 schools participated showcasing innovative models on Science and Humanities. Quizaster was another remarkable event conducted by our outgoing Class XII batch which won the hearts of people from all walks of life.

We were a bridge of connection and communication between the faculty members and the authority. Optimism, hope and confidence helped us achieve the target set. With cooperation and dedication of all my colleagues, the team effort and of course the right guidance of the authority we had a smooth sailing.

Experience is a great teacher and during the tenure I learnt that action springs not from thought but from readiness for responsibility, acumen of time management and the art of communication.

As the year comes to a close with good wishes and gratitude we eagerly look forward to 2024 to dream more, learn more and do more.

Simplicity is the ultimate satisfaction

Teachers' Rep. (NS)

Being a teachers’ representative has been a multifaceted and enriching experience, allowing me to bridge the gap between educators and administrators in our educational community. Advocating for the concerns and aspirations of my fellow teachers, I've found myself immersed in a role that demands effective communication, collaboration, and a deep understanding of the challenges within our profession. Facilitating dialogue between teachers and administrators has been a cornerstone of my responsibilities, requiring me to convey feedback, suggestions, and insights with clarity and empathy. It has been a smooth journey where I got the full cooperation of my fellow teachers which helped me to address the issues to foster a positive working environment. Balancing the demands of this role with my primary responsibilities as a teacher has honed my time management skills, emphasizing the need for efficiency and prioritization. As a teacher representative, I've embraced opportunities for professional growth, gaining insights into educational policies, participating in decision-making processes, and contributing to the collective success of our school community. Celebrating the victories, big and small, has reinforced the significance of our shared commitment in providing quality education and fostering a supportive teaching environment. I convey my thanks to our Principal Fr. Jilson Tom, Vice Principal Fr. Agi Paul and Headmistress Sr. Sunita for believing in me and supporting me to carry out this responsible position of a teachers’ representative.

I am grateful

“Being the ASPL of Holy Cross School, was the best thing of my school life”

As the ASPL, the year 2023 got over very fast. The post of ASPL provided me the honour to take part in every celebration or event that took place and also provided the honour to host many events. The year 2023, as the ASPL, was the most happening year of my whole school life. The year not only granted me responsibilities, it also taught me some important skills like leadership, and most importantly public speaking. It provided me an opportunity to work with our respected teachers and seniors.

The school provided me the opportunity to host the Inter-School Science Exhibition, held by our school. Thus, being the ASPL helped one in my overall development. I would like to our Principal Fr. Jilson Tom and Vice-Principal Fr. Agi Paul for giving me pleasant this opportunity.

“I feel truly honoured to be the ASPL of Holy Cross School”.

Deworming the Children - A Great Initiative

Jayanta Chanda

Co-ordinator (NS)

The National mass Deworming Programme of the Government of India aims at administering a single dose of Deworming tablet (Albendazole) to all school going children in the age group of 3 years to 19 years. It is a well-known fact that in order to have a healthy mind, we need a healthy body. The government is executing this programme every year at mass scale by leveraging the existing educational infrastructure and training teachers to deliver Deworming medication.

The theme of National deworming day 2023, is to raise awareness about the necessity of deworming and the ongoing need to reduce parasitic illness in children, which is very well voiced by two slogans – “Krimi se chhutkara, sehatmand bhavishya hamara”, and “worm-free children, healthy children”. Carrying forward this great initiative, the Govt. of Tripura organised the MSSSKA or Mukhyamantri Sustha Saisab Sustha Kishore Abhiyan for the last four years. This year, it was held from 19th September to 3rd October. Along with this programme, the Govt. also clubbed certain other activities like, ‘Anemia Mukta Bharat (AMB & IFA supplements), Poshan Abhiyan, Td10 and Td16 vaccination, Vitamin A supplementation etc.

Like the previous years, this year too, our school authority took utmost care to see to it that our students get the full benefit of this great initiative. Consent forms regarding Td10 & Td16 vaccinations were sent to every guardian and on a fixed date, the ones yet to be vaccinated were duely vaccinated. The local Public Health Centre was informed about the requirement of all the Albendazole, & Folic Acid Tablets and on convenient dates the medicines were administered among our students. A total of 4213 students received the Albendazole tablets and 4882 students received the Iron & Folic tablets, thanks to the wholehearted efforts of the authority, teaching & non-teaching staff. MSSSKA 5.0 was a great success at Holy Cross School since we ardently believe that – healthy students can surely make healthy future citizens of our country.

Decoding future-SOF Examination

Avijit Paul

Teachers' Rep. (NS)

Every year, our school organizes the Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF) exams, which are highly anticipated and greatly valued by both students and educators. The SOF exams are known for providing a platform for students to showcase their knowledge and skills in subjects such as Mathematics, Science, English, Computer , Social Studies and General Knowledge .

The SOF exams held in our school are conducted in a fair and transparent manner. The questions are carefully crafted to test students' understanding of concepts, rather than rote memorization. This approach not only allows students to demonstrate their understanding of the subject matter but also promotes a deeper comprehension and application of knowledge.

The exams are designed to challenge students at different levels, catering to their individual needs and capabilities. They help identify students' strengths and weaknesses, enabling teachers to personalize their instruction and provide targeted support to enhance their learning experience.

The SOF exams also provide an opportunity for students to gauge their performance against their peers at a regional, national, and international level. Students who perform exceptionally well in these exams have the opportunity to represent their school and compete with students from different parts of the country and the world in the 2nd level .

In conclusion, the SOF exams organized by our school are a crucial component of our academic curriculum. They provide a platform for students to showcase their skills, promote healthy competition, and foster a sense of academic achievement. These exams contribute to the overall development of our students and prepare them for future challenges in their educational journey.

Priyanka Roy Chowdhari

Asst. Teacher (MS)

"Every picnic is a chance to create beautiful memories". Recently our school organised a fun filled picnic for its nursery students on 13th October 2023 at the nursery block. Our nursery kids came in colourful dresses and indulged in a variety of fun activities such as playing games, singing and dancing which helped them interact with each other, develop social skills and foster friendship. The picnic was also an excellent opportunity for the children to bond with their classmates and teachers outside the classroom atmosphere. Overall, the picnic day was a great success and an unforgettable experience for all of us.

“A picnic is more than eating a meal, it is a pleasurable state of mind.”

Dee Dee Stovel

School picnics are always a source of excitement and joy for students. It is the most awaited event for students. This year the students of class 4 had an unforgettable experience on their picnic. It was a day filled with laughter, games and bonding.

The picnic was organized by the school management on 7th October. On that day the students arrived at school with enthusiasm bubbling in them. Upon reaching school they were segregated according to their sections and were accompanied by the teachers. The day began with a morning prayer followed by breakfast with a delicious spread of sandwiches, fruits and juices. The day was packed with dance, music, activities and games. The children showcased their competitive spirit and team collaboration.

Amidst all the fun and games, the students were also encouraged to appreciate nature. They were taken to Holy Cross College away from the hustle and bustle of the city life for a nature walk. The students got a chance to observe the beauty of nature very closely.

A picnic is not complete without a display of mouthwatering food. At 1:00 o’clock lunch was served. Picnic is not just about enjoyment but also about building friendship and memories that will last a lifetime.

After the lunch the students got indulged in activities conducted by the principal Fr. Jilson Tom. The students and the teachers enjoyed every bit of it and time passed so fast that it was time to return home.

With a heart full of joy and enthrallment the students returned home. It was a day filled with laughter, camaraderie and adventure, leaving each student with a treasure trove of memories to cherish.

In a world of shared laughter and unexpected adventures, our class 10 and 12 students came together for a day that transcended grades, creating lasting memories and weaving bonds beyond the classroom walls. As the morning sun gently embraced our school the air was filled with the aroma of breakfast. With satisfied appetites we boarded the buses and amidst the hum of seven buses in convoy, a delightful music with the students enjoying every beat of it our road trip to our destination- St. Andre H.S. School, Bodhjung Nagar was indeed a mixture of laughter and shared stories. Upon reaching there, with the words of encouragement by our Principal setting the tone of our day we were eager to uncover every corner of the place. Dispersing in small groups simple delights were discovered with a lively stage, adorned with music welcoming anyone to groove to the beats while others grabbed the chance to snap pictures and record videos ensuring to create every laughter-filled moment with fellows. As the clock ticked away we lost the teak of time in the essence of dancing, playing games and grinning in happiness. Our respected Principal, headmistress along with the teachers joined the moment, adding spark to the joyous atmosphere. With heart filled with memories, we were ready to take our departure cherishing echoes of laughter and companionship.

The picnic truly and indeed became a day where laughter became the common language, shared adventures became the bridge and by the end of the day: the simple bliss of being together created a connection that felt like we had always been one big, harmonious group.
