Keynote: Usage of HAZOP methodology in safety-critical system development
Abstract: I'll talk about why the HAZOP methodology is used at ABB PCP, with some historical background. I'll present the principal setup with challenges originating from the fact that a control system can be used for a great variety of applications, how to select a suitable group of experts, and documentation and connection to development artefacts. I'll also discuss the difference between pre-HAZOP and HAZOP used at ABB PCP, and at the end show a current example of a pre-HAZOP.
Claes-Göran Gustavsson' bio: Senior Principal Engineer @ ABB AB PCP division, MScEE degree from Chalmers University of Technology 1979. Married with two adult children. I began my professional career at ASEA Industry Sector (the A in ABB). I worked on HW development of microcontroller-based control system primarily used in the nuclear sector Forsmark3 and Oskarshamn3. That system with controller and I/O formed the basis for modern control systems used an innovative programming language that became an IEC standard. I was involved in project management, when ABB was formed in 1988, for next generation controller that became among other the first certified system. SG400 was released and certified DIN 19250 AK6 among other standards in 1996. I've acted as safety engineer and system architect for the current AC800M HI controller family, SIL3 certified including I/O, and been responsible for contacts with the assessment body TÜV Süd. I'm a member of the IEC61508 and IEC61511 standardization committee since 2008. I'm working part-time since 2020.
