Keynote: A glimpse of safety assurance for defense systems, IEC 63187, and IEC 61508

Abstract: This talk will start with a discussion about the particularity of safety-related defense systems and the impact on safety of the defense programs organisation and a view of the standardisation within IEC. Then assurance and certification of critical systems will be discussed from the perspective of defense systems and programmes with a view on IEC 63187 and IEC 61508.

Katia Potiron's bio: After a diploma on complex systems engineering and a PhD thesis on fault tolerance and multi-agent systems (cross domain between safety, AI, and system-of-system architecture), Katia experienced 10 years into several positions of expertise in certification of digital products in the aeronautical field and as trainer for multi-domain operational safety standards. Katia is now a safety expert at KNDS France. Since 2017, Katia is part of AFNOR and IEC within the IEC 61508 maintenance team and is an active member and recently convenor of TC65/SC65A/WG 18 writing the IEC 63187 Systems Engineering – System safety – complex systems and defence programmes.
