 Valor & Bravery Awards

Medal of Valor

    •    Criteria: Acts of extreme bravery and heroism in life-threatening situations, beyond the call of duty.

    •    Approval: Commissioner / High Command

    •    Frequency: Rare

Distinguished Service Cross

    •    Criteria: Exceptional courage under fire resulting in the protection of life or neutralization of a major threat.

    •    Approval: Command Staff

Lifesaving Medal

    •    Criteria: Direct actions that save a civilian or fellow officer’s life.

    •    Examples: CPR, rescue from active danger, medical intervention.

    •    Approval: Command Staff

Trooper of the Month

    •    Criteria: Outstanding patrol activity, professionalism, and RP quality.

    •    Selection: Command Staff vote

    •    Frequency: Monthly

Trooper of the Year

    •    Criteria: Consistent excellence throughout the year.

    •    Approval: Commissioner

    •    Frequency: Annual

Meritorious Service Medal

    •    Criteria: Exceptional performance over a sustained period.

    •    Examples: High-quality investigations, leadership, consistent activity.

Exemplary Conduct Ribbon

    •    Criteria: Professional conduct with no disciplinary actions over an extended period.

    •    Approval: Supervisors

Longevity Service Ribbon

    •    Criteria: Continued service within SAST.

    •    Tiers:

    •    30 days

    •    60 days

    •    90+ days

Attendance & Activity Award

    •    Criteria: Outstanding attendance at patrols, trainings, and department events.

Leadership Commendation

    •    Criteria: Exceptional leadership, mentoring, or supervision of troopers.

    •    Eligibility: Corporals and above

FTO Excellence Award

    •    Criteria: Outstanding performance as a Field Training Officer.

    •    Approval: Training Command

Instructor Achievement Ribbon

    •    Criteria: High-quality training sessions and positive trainee feedback.

Tactical Achievement Award

    •    Criteria: Exceptional performance in SWAT or high-risk operations.

Traffic Enforcement Excellence Award

    •    Criteria: Outstanding traffic enforcement, DUI arrests, or roadway safety RP.

Investigation Commendation

    •    Criteria: Successful long-term investigations and case closures.

Award Nomination Process

    •    Any trooper may be nominated by a Supervisor or Command Staff

    •    Nominations must include:

    •    Trooper name & badge number

    •    Award requested

    •    Detailed justification

    •    Supporting evidence (if applicable)

    •    False or exaggerated nominations will be denied
