Quantum Theories of Fields, Matter, and Strings is a theoretical physics seminar series initially launched by Burak Oğuz (his webpage) and me. Later, our friends become involved, allowing us to reach a broader audience and enhance the professionalism of the project.

Our main motivation is to change the stagnant academic environment around us and inspire the younger generations. We wanted to prove that, even in a constrained environment, it is possible to create a seminar series of international calibre—one that brings together distinguished physicists from around the world.
Through our undergraduate years, as an enthusiastic group of students, we constantly felt the lack of theoretical physics seminars in our environment. When we tried to organize seminars with the department, we encountered either bureaucratic or financial obstacles. One crucial obstruction was that universities in Turkey do not have Zoom subscriptions. This effectively means that our connection to the outside world is non-existent. We connected with world-class physicists and arranged talks. However, the department said there was nothing they could do and asked us to find Zoom accounts by ourselves. The only way out was my acceptance to the University of Kentucky and using its Zoom account. Using this opportunity, we took the initiative to organize an independent seminar series and created QTFMS.
