Databases

Epicollect5

Our volunteers used the Epicollect5 app developed by the Imperial College of London. This app has been pivotal for many citizen science projects including our own.

Our databases consisted of a total of four different projects based on amount of data input and language. As our program grew over the years, we are moving towards centralizing our data collection to the more 'comprehensive' versions of the project with complete information rather than the 'easy' versions that are reduced in data input.

The comprehensive versions of the Epicollect5 project are 'Sargassum Watch' in English and 'Monitoreo de Sargassum' in Spanish. The easy versions are 'EZ Sargassum' (English) and 'Sargazo Facil' (Spanish).

iNaturalist

Our program also has an iNaturalist page for sargassum data collection using the iNaturalist app. Most data collected only show species, but some observations included site-scaled observations and were previously used in peer-reviewed research.
