The San Antonio Regional Association of Black Social Workers (SA Regional ABSW) is a regional chapter affiliated with the National Association of Black Social Workers (NABSW). We are committed to supporting, empowering, and advocating for Black social workers and the communities we serve in the San Antonio region.
Membership is open to individuals who:
Identify as a person of Black African Ancestry
Have a current and active affiliation with the social work profession (student, practitioner, educator, administrator, researcher, or retiree)
Align with the mission, values, and ethical standards of NABSW
Desire to build and strengthen the Black social work community in San Antonio
No. Membership is open to individuals who live, work, or have a strong connection to the Greater San Antonio region (including but not limited to Seguin, New Braunfels, Medina County, Atacosa County, Uvalde, Austin) and wish to support or engage with SA Regional ABSW.

Dues are set at the national and chapter levels:
Professional/Senior Members: $75 annually ($60 National + $15 Chapter)
Student Members: $45 annually ($30 National + $15 Chapter)
Dues are subject to change based on chapter needs and national requirements.

Yes. SA Regional ABSW is a space for, of, and by people of Black African Ancestry. We are committed to maintaining a respectful, affirming, and culturally grounded environment guided by our Code of Conduct and NABSW values.
No. SAR ABSW does not provide clinical therapy, crisis counseling, or clinical supervision. Any wellness or support activities offered are non-clinical and focused on peer support and resource sharing. However, in the future, we plan to create a directory of independently licensed professionals who offer supervision and consultation as a resource for members.
Members may get involved by:
Serving on a committee
Participating in events or service initiatives
Volunteering for chapter projects
Running for an Executive Board or leadership position
SA Regional ABSW is currently rebuilding and working toward full professional chapter status. NABSW allows provisional chapters (5–9 members) up to two years to grow to full status (10+ members).
Yes! Student members are encouraged to join and participate. SA Regional ABSW values students and emerging professionals and aims to provide mentorship and leadership development opportunities.
