Leading lesson study: programmes, networks and publications
Leading lesson study: programmes, networks and publications
My interest in lesson study began in 2013 when I was asked to conduct an impact evaluation for two large scale lesson study projects funded by the London Schools Excellence Fund, one in Bromley and one in Lambeth. Our approach to impact evaluation for these projects was written about in a published article.
I then went on to study for a Masters with a focus on lesson study, and to publish these findings. I also developed a Leading Lesson Study programme for schools at UCL Institute of Education, which saw around seven cohorts of teachers and leaders, and to run a Lesson Study Network and several conferences.
This enabled me to write a Lesson Study Handbook to support practical implementation in schools (hard copies available on request).
One project resulted in the publication of this booklet for teachers seeking to better meet the needs of pupils with special educational needs and disabilities in mathematics.
I went on to pursue a PhD, which is ongoing and information focused on the international implementation of lesson study and numerous conference presentations and articles published as part of this study can be found in my CV.
In 2016, in Incheon, South Korea, I ran workshops for school leaders and academics, and spoke on lesson study at an international conference and I have since become an International Education Research Fellow for Cheongju National University of Education.
