Autism research projects for teachers
Autism research projects for teachers
The Making Autism Research Accessible to Teachers (MARAT) project ran in two iterations from 2016 to 2018 at UCL Institute of Education, using a Research Learning Communities methodology for collaborative teacher research. I designed and facilitated the sessions, which were supported by an interdisciplinary team of specialists including an autism expert. School teams made up of a school leader and a class teacher and the project involved structured engagement with recent, high quality research, devising and trialling evidence-informed interventions that supported pupils with autism and facilitating the improvement of whole school policy and practice on special education and disability. The full findings have been published in a journal article.
The second iteration of this project, called the Autism: Research Into Practice project, culminated in the codification of teachers’ research findings into this research booklet which was shared widely to support better provision for SEND pupils. This project took place at London South Teaching School and was funded by The Laurel Trust.
