"When you can measure what you are speaking about and express it in numbers,

you know something about it" (William Thomson, 1889)

Researcher by day, science communicator by night.

I am a senior Assistant Professor of Psychometrics at the University of Bologna.

As a psychometrician, I am particularly interested in advanced inferential statistical models (e.g. bayesian inference, informative hypothesis, estimation, computational modelling) that can empower hypothesis testing, within the current debate about Open Science, the replicability crisis, and the diffusion of best practices. In this regard, I'm proud to be an Editor for Collabra Psychology, PCI Registered Reports, and PCI Neuro.

As a neuroscientist, I study how our brains respond to external cues that, once associated with rewards and punishments, can influence our daily choices in adaptive and maladaptive (e.g., compulsion, addiction) ways.

As a science communicator, I write books, articles, and create videos for many national and international media (like, TED-Ed, HuffPost UK, il Saggiatore, il Tascabile, Il Bo Live). I also organize and participate to public meetings with citizens mainly focused on the psychological mechanisms behind (apparently) irrational choices and on the way in which media develop a relationship with our brain.
