Saptaparni (Raka) Kumar

I’m a computer scientist and co-founder of Kumakart Oy in Helsinki, where I build mobile learning apps for Android and iOS, including Hygieniapassi Tutor (exam prep for the Finnish food hygiene certificate) and Ektu, an app for learning Kolkata Bengali.

Past experiences:
My husband and I owned and ran a little Finnish-Indian bakery in Helsinki, Finland for five years. 

My primary research interest is in the field of distributed computing focusing on  design and analysis of distributed algorithms, and proving lower bounds and impossibility results for specifically failure-prone dynamic systems. I have also worked on implementing distributed algorithms on real systems.

I completed my PhD in May 2019 under the guidance of Dr. Jennifer Welch from Texas A&M University, College Station.  After my PhD, I was a postdoctoral research scholar at Boston College (2019–2020).

I received my Bachelor's degree from National Institute of Technology, Durgapur in 2010 and worked for Samsung and ANSYS before joining Texas A&M for grad school in 2013. I have also worked on disaster recovery for distributed storage at NetApp, Sunnyvale,   CA.
