Humanity, Religion, and Society
in a Changing Age of Robotics and AI
19th (Wed) October 2022
Hokkaido University
Recent advances in artificial intelligence (AI) technologies suggest a future in which people interact with AI systems increasingly as entities with some form of agency or “artificial subjects", rather than just as advanced information processing technology. This prospect raises a host of questions regarding our co-existence with advanced AI systems, such as: How would they influence the current human practices? How would different cultures respond to these technological advances? How could we use traditional humanistic resources to develop machines that will contribute to human flourishing? In this symposium, we will have three speakers approach these perennial issues from the perspectives of psychology, theology, and computer science.
