Practise with hard surface modelling was done by following a 5-part tutorial on how to make a destiny 2 weapon by Arrimus 3D.
Research was done into the rules of 3D Modelling listed by TurboSquid such as avoiding having poles.
Retopology is the process of going over the top of the high poly model but utilizing a lot less polygons. The owl which is shown below is was used as practise.
The chosen helicopter to create was a Eurocopter EC135, and a mood board was produced.
Stage 1 was to produce a high poly model by utilizing a "Turbo Smooth" modifier which requires experience working with the modifer.
Stage 2 was to produce a low poly version of the helicopter by utilizing retopology which is the process of going over the top of the high poly model but utilizing a lot less polygons.
Baking is the process of applying fake details onto a model by projecting high poly onto a low poly model.
The final product for how the helicopter turned out is shown on the left side.
