Montessori is a child-centered approach to education with a basic core curriculum organized around the following areas:
Children recognize numbers and quantity through concrete learning materials. Hands-on materials are used such as number rods, sandpaper numbers, number boards, spindle box, number tiles, beads, and games.
Children learn how to understand and adapt to the environment. Sensorial exercises allow children to refine their sight, sound, taste, smell and touch.
Children explore the natural world around them. Culture subjects include: Geography, Zoology, Botany, History, Science, Art, Music, Spanish and Mandarin Languages.
This is the foundation of Montessori education. It is designed to help children develop independence, coordination, concentration, self-control, self-awareness and confidence. The activities fall into four main categories: care of self, control of movement, care of environment and grace and courtesy.
Children learn listening skills, comprehension, and vocabulary. This is to help children experience different modes of language within their environment. Building a strong vocabulary sets the foundation for understanding the importance of communication and developing increased reading and writing skills.
