Telugu is my native language; as such, it is spoken all the time in my home. My parents communicate in Telugu to each other and sometimes to me, though they usually just speak English to me. I am not as proficient in Telugu as I am in Hindi or Spanish; while I understand the language, I don't normally speak it, and I cannot read or write in Telugu. However, I am getting better everyday. Making a more serious commitment to becoming literate in my native language is one step I can take to increase my fluency. I have friends who are Telugu, and I'm constantly surrounded by Telugu people and music so I will have a lot of practice both here in Redmond and back at home in India. I listen to lots of music in Telugu at home, from the newest pop songs to original hits from the 80s and 70s in the Telugu language, and I've found that my language comprehension skills have improved vastly when I listen to music in that language. Telugu is really a practical language; to master it, one needs to practice by speaking the language in a live setting, rather than reading from a textbook. So, speaking Telugu in my normal, daily life, will ensure that I am more confident speaking, reading and writing in the language.
He hablado por tres lenguas que aprendiá, pero mi idioma favorito para aprender es Español. Tomé español 1 en octavo grado y me gusto no solo el idioma, pero la cultura y las tradiciones de las naciones de habla hispana tambien. Al igual que el hindi, el español tiene muchos dialectos diferentes. Sin embargo, me encanta aprender el idioma; es muy poético y hermoso. El español es un idioma global y uno de los seis idiomas oficiales de la ONU; es un idioma versátil que encapsula casi todo un continente, España y muchos más países de todo el mundo. El idioma español tiene rica historia cultural a la que solo se puede acceder a través del idioma, y para aprender esta historia, necesita ser competente en español. Considero que el español es el idioma más fácil que he aprendido, específicamente porque el vocabulario tiene mucho en común con el inglés. Mi objetivo con el español es poder usar el idioma en más lugares; ya he usado el español en Panamá, y me sentí muy bien por poder hablar un nuevo idioma con gente nueva. Ahora, tomo Español 2 en mi escuela, y mi escuela realmente tiene un enfoque global, por lo que nuestro plan de estudios de español se define por su interactividad y práctica en el mundo real.
