I'm excited to take part in earning my Global Competence Certificate!
I've traveled to 17 countries, lived in India for three years and even learned a new language there. My school has a strong emphasis on global education and community involvement, so I've always been raised to know how important being engaged with the world is.

I'm involved in my school's Model United Nations (MUN) and Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) clubs, so even when I'm not at school, I'm always learning about our world's fascinating diversity.

In my free time, I love to write novels. I've written and published seven so far, with an eighth on the way. I also love to read and think about which country I might visit next year.

How do these experiences affect your daily life?
How do these experiences affect your daily life?
The global engagement, international learning and intercultural learning experiences I have are truly part of my daily life. Of course, going to new countries is a special occurrence! Nonetheless, I do try to integrate the knowledge I have from these experiences into everything I do. For example, when I visited Italy and actually saw the Sistine Chapel with my own eyes, it gave me a lot of appreciation for our unit on the Ancient Romans we did in my history class later that semester. I could see how far Europe and the world had come in terms of science, art and culture; that knowledge is powerful to me. As a multilingual person, I apply my language skills everywhere I go: I'm proficient in English, the lingua franca of the world, and am learning Spanish, which I had the opportunity to use in Panama last year. Knowing Hindi and Telugu are vital to understanding my own culture, something a lot of people forget when we think about global competence. The experiences I have and the ones to come are crucial to my development as a globally competent student ready to change the world for the better.

In the future, I hope to use the knowledge I have from my global or glocal experiences to make reforms in my community and in the world. One initiative I am very passionate about as a Sustainability Ambassador is climate change: I want to use my prior research and communication skills to not only spread awareness, but to take action on this very real and pressing issue. I also hope I will be able to educate others about being global citizens and taking on an active role in our community. As a member of my school's MUN and FBLA clubs, these two things are central to having a successful and fulfilling career and life on this planet. Finally, I hope I will gain insight into the why of the world. Ever since I was just a little girl in school, I can always remember my teachers compelling me to ask why rather than how. The various global experiences I've had over my life do not teach me how things work; they compel me to ask the reason for why things are the way they are. Instead of simply acknowledging our issues, if we can each work together to change them for the better, we will be better as globally competent citizens, and better as a planet where people care about one another's cultures, traditions and dreams.
