I love Banded Mongooses so hears some facts about them!Size & Weight: Adults typically measure 12 to 18 inches long with a 6 to 12-inch tail, weighing roughly 3.25 to 5.5 pounds. The Buddy System: Once pups are old enough to leave the den, they are assigned an individual adult escort (often a non-father) that teaches them how to forage and defends them from predators. Diet: They are primarily insectivores, eating beetles, termites, and millipedes, but will also consume small rodents, amphibians, fruits, and reptiles.
Snake Immunity: Banded mongooses are famous for hunting venomous snakes; they rely on lightning-fast reflexes and thick, tough skin to evade and overpower them. Range: Found throughout Africa, south of the Sahara—thriving in areas rich in termite mounds and dense thickets.
Lifespan: They live an average of 10 years in the wild, though they can live up to 15 years in managed care, such as at a zoo.
Conservation Status: The species is currently widespread, abundant, and not at risk for extinction.
