Assistant Professor of Metallurgical & Materials Engineering at IIT Kharagpur.

Sankha Mukherjee received Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from McGill University, Canada, following an M.Tech. in Materials Science from IIT Bombay and a B.E. in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering from BESU Shibpur. Prior to joining IIT Kharagpur in 2020, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Toronto (Materials Science and Engineering), working closely with leading experimental groups on nanoscale mechanics and energy materials.

His research focuses on computational materials science, with an emphasis on atomistic modelling of structure–property relationships in advanced materials. His interests span electronic and thermal transport in low-dimensional materials, solid-state electrolytes for rechargeable batteries, and hydrogen storage materials, with growing integration of machine learning to accelerate materials design and discovery. His work has led to fundamental insights into mechanical reliability, transport, fracture, and interfacial behaviour, and has been published in leading journals such as Nature Materials, Science Advances, Matter, Chemistry of Materials, Carbon, and Nanoscale.

He has received competitive funding from national agencies and currently serves as an Editorial Board Member of Discover Nano (Springer Nature).
