Babasaheb R. Sankapal is Professor and formerly Head, Department of Physics, Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT), Nagpur, Maharashtra, India.  He served as Chairman, Board of Studies for the Department,  Associate Dean (Exam) for VNIT,  as Scientist at Helmholtz Centre, Berlin, Germany; JSPS PDF at Gifu University, Japan; and Research Associate at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, USA. 

As HoD, received grant of 2.47 crore (DST-FIST) and as personal supervised 17 Ph.D. students, published more than 182 research papers with Google Scholar h-Index 58 with citations above 7700 with average impact factor 5. He has on his credit, 10 major research project cost about 2.82 crore.

His expertise is in Materials Science towards device grade development of Supercapacitor, Solar cell (DSSC, Q-dots) and LPG Sensor through nano embedded thin films using simple chemical approach.
